JOB SUMMARY
The primary purposes of this role are to assist Head of Tax, Taiwan to ensure that entities within Taiwan are well managed within tax risk appetite, and to drive and implement the tax strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
• Complete overall Taiwan tax compliance and to help ensuring tax risk is well controlled and remains within the risk appetite.
• Monitor Taiwan tax risks though all applicable group and country policies.
• Achieve effective and efficient tax operational process.
• Proactively identify and execute on tax value opportunities that are consistent with Group Tax Policy.
• Identify and progress industry tax advocacy consistent with Group Tax Policy.
Business
• Provide prompt, concise advice, and practical solutions and support to business and other stakeholders and quantify tax implications for business transactions as when required.
• Proactively keep up to date with tax developments and keep relevant business, finance and other stakeholders informed of significant impacts of these developments where relevant.
• Review Taiwan tax aspects of material format approvals such as product approvals, country addendums, change in structure forms and repatriation requests.
• Provide subject matter expertise in respect of tax evasion aspects of financial crime compliance and assist with client case reviews.
Processes
• Process Taiwan tax aspects pertaining to forecasting, reporting and tax compliance processes, including Taiwan processes for direct and indirect taxes, transfer pricing, trust return and client tax reporting.
Risk Management
• Manage Taiwan tax risk within the risk appetite of the Group.
• Review corporate income tax returns and other submission to the Taiwan tax authorities and overseas tax bureau where appropriate
• Resolve tax controversy for Taiwan and drive any material tax settlement or litigation matters.

• Take personal responsibility for understanding the risk and compliance requirements of the role and communicating the same to the team. Understand and comply with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws and regulations, including those governing anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions; the Group’s policies and standards; and the Group Code of Conduct. Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate, and resolve risk and compliance matters.
• Embed the Group’s values and code of conduct to ensure that adherence with the highest standards of ethics, and compliance with relevant policies, processes and regulations among employees form part of the culture.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Other Responsibilities
Embed Here for good and Group’s brand and values in Taiwan tax team; Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures.
Qualification
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or advanced degree in Taxation preferred.
- Languages: Native in Mandarin and English Proficiency with strong command of the English language, both written and spoken, to effectively communicate with stakeholders and prepare English documentation.
Role Specific Technical Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of Taiwan tax matters
- Good inter-personal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax issues in a comprehensive manner to non-tax trained stakeholders
- Ability to make sensible, real time commercial and risk judgements and provide practical solutions
