Job Summary

As a Senior Officer in Cash Operations at Standard Chartered in Baghdad, you will play a crucial role in enhancing and managing the payment services within our processing centre. Your work will directly contribute to positioning the centre as a key revenue generator by developing innovative payment service products aligned with business goals. You will have responsibility for monitoring and controlling operational costs to meet departmental budgets, while continuously seeking efficiencies that optimise cost per transaction, including overseeing expenditures such as courier, communication, and miscellaneous expenses.

In this role, you will ensure strict adherence to financial controls to prevent revenue leakage, maintaining integrity in all profit and loss account activities. You will provide exceptional service standards, developing strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers, particularly large corporates in the UAE and beyond. By advising customers on best practices for transferring funds, especially to exchange-controlled countries, you will safeguard compliance with regulatory requirements and contribute to our service excellence.

Process Management

  • Verify authenticity and accuracy of all transactions processed in the Cash Payment Centre, ensuring compliance with remitter instructions and operational standards.
  • Oversee prompt resolution of internal account reconciliation issues, including adjustments for sundry and erroneous entries, minimizing discrepancies.
  • Manage escalation and timely resolution of Nostro unreconciled entries to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Maintain consistent adherence to agreed service level agreements (SLAs) by ensuring turnaround times for transaction processing are met.
  • Handle all enquiries and complaints efficiently, guaranteeing resolutions within defined timeframes to uphold customer satisfaction.
  • Stay fully updated and compliant with the Group’s CMS policies and other bank procedures related to cash and payment operations.
  • Act as custodian for sensitive bank keys and bulk stock items as required, maintaining security protocols.
  • Provide supervision and backup support across various operational desks to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Ensure rigorous authenticity checks on all cheque types processed, including returned items, and ensure cheques are warehoused and cleared timely.
  • Implement robust reconciliation processes for all processed financial instruments to prevent any operational risks or losses.
  • Prevent any unauthorized debits affecting profit and loss accounts and diligently monitor tariff applications to payment instructions to prevent revenue leakage.

People & Talent Development

  • Lead, motivate, and train operational staff to optimise performance and enhance productivity across the department.
  • Champion service improvement initiatives that align with Standard Chartered’s customer service philosophy and outserve programme.

This full-time, office-based position is located in Baghdad, Iraq. While this role does not include direct people management responsibilities, it offers significant opportunities to contribute as a senior individual contributor and to influence team performance through subject matter expertise and operational leadership. The role requires a hands-on approach to managing cash operations and clear communication skills to effectively coordinate with multiple internal departments and external stakeholders. Candidates must be comfortable working within a dynamic financial services environment that demands accuracy, compliance, and a focus on continuous process improvements.
