Job Summary

Role Purpose

•    The Full Stack Developer (Band 8A) is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining end-to-end digital solutions across front-end and back-end stacks. The role ensures applications are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with architectural, information security, and regulatory standards. The candidate is expected to work independently on complex initiatives, provide technical leadership within the squad, and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Application Design & Development

•    Design, develop, and maintain full stack applications (front-end, back-end, integrations, and data access layers) using agreed technology stacks and frameworks.
•    Translate business and functional requirements into well-structured, maintainable, and testable technical solutions.
•    Implement responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces that deliver high-quality user experiences.
•    Develop robust RESTful/GraphQL APIs and microservices, ensuring secure and efficient data exchange between components and external systems.
•    Ensure solutions adhere to enterprise architecture standards, coding guidelines, and non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, security, resilience).

2. Quality Engineering & Testing

•    Apply test-driven development (TDD) / behavior-driven development (BDD) practices where feasible.
•    Implement and maintain comprehensive automated test suites (unit, integration, API, UI, regression).
•    Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to standards.
•    Troubleshoot and resolve complex defects and production issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions.

3. Security, Compliance & Risk Management

•    Design and implement secure coding practices, including input validation, identity and access management, encryption usage, secrets management, and logging/monitoring controls.
•    Ensure all solutions comply with internal information security policies, data privacy requirements, and external regulatory obligations relevant to the bank’s operations.
•    Work closely with information security and compliance teams to remediate vulnerabilities identified through code scanning, penetration tests, or security assessments.
•    Incorporate security-by-design principles into solution architecture and development lifecycle.

4. DevOps, CI/CD & Environment Management

•    Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines, ensuring automated build, test, and deployment processes across environments.
•    Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams to optimise application deployment, containerisation, scaling, and monitoring.
•    Implement observability practices (logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerts) to ensure proactive detection and resolution of issues.
•    Support environment readiness (development, test, UAT, production) and participate in deployment planning and release activities.

5. Collaboration, Ways of Working & Agile Delivery

•    Work as an integrated member of an agile squad, participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
•    Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Solution Architects, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams to deliver end-to-end features.
•    Provide clear technical estimates, manage own work effectively, and proactively highlight risks, dependencies, or impediments to delivery.
•    Guide and mentor junior engineers, helping to develop their technical skills and engineering discipline.

6. Architecture & Technical Leadership (Band 8A Level)

•    Contribute to solution and application architecture for the assigned domain, aligning with enterprise patterns and reference architectures.
•    Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools to meet business and non-functional requirements.
•    Produce and maintain technical design documents, API specifications, and other relevant artefacts.
•    Drive technical discussions, challenge design decisions constructively, and ensure alignment with target architecture and strategic roadmaps.

7. Performance, Reliability & Support

•    Optimise application performance (front-end and back-end), including page load times, API responsiveness, and database/query optimisation.
•    Ensure solutions are designed for high availability, resilience, and graceful degradation where relevant.
•    Provide 3rd-line/engineering-level support for production applications, including incident triage, defect analysis, and problem management.
•    Participate in on-call or out-of-hours support rota where required by the function.

8. Continuous Improvement & Engineering Excellence

•    Champion engineering best practices, coding standards, and patterns (e.g., clean architecture, SOLID principles, domain-driven design where applicable).
•    Identify and implement opportunities to improve development processes, tooling, testing strategies, and deployment practices.
•    Stay current with emerging technologies, frameworks, security practices, and regulatory developments relevant to the bank’s technology landscape.
•    Share knowledge through technical sessions, documentation, and collaboration across teams.

Typical Skills & Experience (for context in the JD)

•    Strong experience developing full stack applications using one or more modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue) and back-end technologies (e.g., Java/Spring, .NET, Node.js, or similar).
•    Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, ORMs, and data access patterns.
•    Practical experience with CI/CD tools, containerisation (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud/on-prem deployment models (as applicable in your environment).
•    Demonstrable understanding of secure coding, OWASP Top 10, and enterprise security standards.
