Job Summary

This position is for a Director with an advanced degree in a quantitative discipline; requires extensive experience in the areas of analytics, SAS and Python programming language applied in the Credit Risk Models across Retail (secured and unsecured), Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (secured and unsecured structured lending and discretionary lending), Wealth and Private Banking segments of Standard Chartered Bank. End to end ownership of the process around Loan Impairment Analytics covering retail risk Function / Segment / Regions. Ensure high quality service delivery through measurable performance metrics ensuring effective control, stakeholder engagement and leadership development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understanding diverse franchise business of Standard Chartered Group covering 30+ countries, 120+ traditional banking products, 20+ digital lending products.
  • Ongoing analytical support to Standard Chartered Business at Group and Local levels.
  • Day to day interaction with Business and WRB Model development teams to discuss the problems and its analytical solutions.
  • Effective and strong communications with WRB Country Risk teams and WRB Business (Group and Country) stakeholders.
  • Develop a deep understanding of ECL/IFRS 9 models: Modelled and Non-Modelled portfolios.
  • Develop an excellent understanding of the Loan Impairment processes, including LI (and its components) forecasting, technology and methodologies used.
  • Responsible for overall IFRS9 based ECL and LI analyses for Group WRB stakeholders (Risk and Business, regions and segments) explaining the drivers (ECL, Charge-offs and Recoveries), ensuring key story has been captured to provide meaningful insight.
  • Handle WRB Portfolios Loan Impairment Loss forecasting analysis, promptly flagging and/or escalating issues as necessary and eventually propose central overlays post country review and challenge.
  • Ensure ECL for new products/partnership is in place as per CMAC and/or IIC approvals.
  • On the above-mentioned processes, ensuring appropriate Governance and control: 1) proper coverage, 2) proper documentations like EUC, BIA, BCP, BID, Migration Checklists, SLAs, Recharge Documents, DOI, Change Templates etc. needs to be documented and stored appropriately, as per company’s policies requirements. This includes being the EUC owner for the EUCs generated by the team, as mentioned in our DOIs.
  • Provide adequate support for internal or external Audits related to WRB LI/ECL matters.
  • Collaborate with GBS reporting unit and wider policy and governance team to ensure that data utilized for our processes is sourced from the right source (“golden source”), if not, set up plans and execute its rectification.
  • Actively seek opportunities to create more efficiency in the processes (e.g. leverage MSTR/automate reporting/explore Risk View improvement for ECL walk/explore leveraging the ServiceNow to handle ECL queries and enable analytics on the type of queries raised by stakeholders as well as capacity planning, and feedback it into the process improvement as macro-themes arise from the analytics of it.)
  • Significant experience in effective presentation and in leading and managing multi-stakeholder conversations.
  • Strong team management ability with the focus on upskilling and empowering younger team members.

Skills and Experience

Qualifications:
•    B. Tech plus MBA Finance or M. Stat/ MSQE from Top Tier Institutes. 
•    Excellent understanding of retail, wealth, private bank retail lending products, and micro, small and medium enterprise products and their business lifecycles (e.g., sales, underwriting, portfolio management, marketing, collections etc.)
•    Significant experience in a similar role; at least 12 years of total experience in a retail banking and/or small business lending analytical function
•    5+ years of experience in managing a relevant team
•    Very good statistical programming skills in SAS or Python or R, analytical skills and understanding of quantitative credit risk models and their application
•    Excellent Loan Impairment, IFRS 9 and Expected Credit Loss knowledge 
•    Experience in direct interactions with Business and exposure to international markets are a must.
