Job Description: 

Job Summary

•    Design, develop, test and maintain secure, resilient and scalable software components for the Bank’s API platform, supporting reliable digital services for commercial clients. 
•    Deliver high-quality Java and Spring Boot solutions using microservices, REST APIs and middleware technologies, while applying sound software engineering, automation and Agile practices. 
•    Collaborate with technology teams, business analysts, product owners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions that comply with the Bank’s security, architecture, API governance and risk standards

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering
•    Act as an individual contributor, accountable for the design, development, testing and deployment of software and reusable software components.
•    Develop high-quality solutions using Core Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, microservices and RESTful service architecture.
•    Apply test-driven development and behaviour-driven development practices to improve software quality, maintainability and release confidence.
•    Integrate applications with middleware and messaging technologies such as Kafka and Solace.
•    Support containerised application deployment using platforms such as Kubernetes or EKS.
•    Use Git-based source control and continuous integration practices to support reliable, repeatable and controlled software delivery.
Collaboration and Delivery Outcomes
•    Work collaboratively with technology teams, business analysts, product owners and business stakeholders across relevant businesses to clarify requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
•    Contribute to technical analysis, solution design, estimation, development planning, code reviews and resolution of complex engineering issues.
•    Communicate openly and constructively, raising risks, dependencies and technical concerns early and recommending practical improvements.
Engineering Standards, Risk and Governance
•    Follow the Bank’s internal software-delivery practices and ensure that applicable security controls are implemented and evidenced.
•    Ensure solutions comply with internal API governance, engineering, architecture and technology standards.
•    Produce secure, maintainable and supportable code, with appropriate testing and technical documentation.
•    Identify, escalate, mitigate and help resolve technology, delivery, conduct and compliance risks.
•    Take personal responsibility for adhering to applicable laws, regulations, policies, the Group Code of Conduct and the Bank’s valued behaviours.
•    Contribute to continuous improvement by applying lessons learned from delivery outcomes.

Qualifications

Key Experiences:
•    Demonstrated software-development experience using Core Java and Spring Framework / Spring Boot. 
•    Experience designing, developing and deploying microservice-based applications and RESTful services. 
•    Experience with service-oriented architecture and integration technologies such as Kafka and Solace. 
•    Experience with Agile engineering practices, including Scrum, TDD and BDD. 
•    Experience using Git-based source-code management and continuous integration practices. 
•    Experience with containerised application deployment, such as Kubernetes or EKS, is desirable. 
•    Strong problem-solving ability, critical thinking, attention to detail and the capacity to learn new technologies quickly. 
•    Ability to communicate openly, work effectively as part of a team, think independently and constructively challenge existing approaches.

Certifications / Qualifications (only where mandatory):    
•    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Languages: 
•    English, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly with engineering teams and business stakeholders.
