Job Summary

The AI Project Lead for Collections AI/ML Model Development will oversee the design, development, deployment, and improvement of machine learning models for collections strategy. This role integrates data science, risk strategy, technology, and operations to create efficient, scalable solutions that enhance recovery and customer outcomes. The individual will ensure AI governance, model transparency, and ethical AI use according to regulatory standards

Strategy*

 

  1. Define the AI/ML strategy for collections, aligning with broader business goals, risk appetite, and digital transformation agendas.
  2. Identify high-impact use cases in the collections value chain (e.g., contact prioritization, propensity-to-pay, treatment optimization).
  3. Create a roadmap for model development, deployment, monitoring, and refresh cycles.
  4. Explore opportunities for generative AI, NLP, and real-time decision engines to enhance customer engagement and outcomes.

 

Business*

  1. Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate collections challenges into AI use cases with measurable ROI.
  2. Lead value assessment and benefit realization from AI model deployment in collections (e.g., recovery uplift, cost reduction, CX improvements).
  3. Interface with product, technology, and risk teams to ensure successful integration of models into business systems and workflows.
  4. Track model-driven outcomes to guide future business strategy refinement and prioritization.

Key Responsibilities

Processes*

  1. Oversee data sourcing, feature engineering, model selection, training, validation, and deployment processes.
  2. Ensure that model development adheres to reproducibility, scalability, and explainability standards.
  3. Manage model performance monitoring, stability tracking, and continuous tuning processes post-deployment

    People & Talent*

    1. Lead a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, data engineers, and model validators.
    2. Build AI/ML capability within the broader collections team through knowledge sharing, training, and cross-functional collaboration.
    3. Foster a culture of experimentation, accountability, and innovation in AI model development.

    Risk Management*

    1. Ensure models are developed with strong controls around bias, fairness, and compliance with applicable risk policies.
    2. Work closely with risk teams to align model outcomes with credit and operational risk tolerance.
    3. Conduct model validation, scenario testing, and stress testing in partnership with risk governance teams.
    4. Mitigate risks related to data quality, model drift, and unintended consequences of automated decisions.

Skills and Experience

Governance*

  1. Define and maintain documentation, model governance frameworks, and audit trails for AI/ML models.
  2. Ensure compliance with internal model risk management standards and external regulatory requirements
  3. Participate in model review committees and provide transparent reporting on model performance and risks.
  4. Collaborate with compliance and legal to ensure ethical AI use, especially in sensitive customer interactions
