Job Summary
Standard Chartered Bank is hiring a Senior Haskell Developer (Quantitative Developer) to join the Front Office Modelling & Analytics team. You will work on a wide range of financial-markets projects, from client-facing GUIs to high-performance server-side systems and large-scale reporting tools. Our platforms handle millions of trades and rely heavily on Haskell and our in-house variant, Mu. In this role, you’ll contribute to software architecture, collaborate with front-office stakeholders, and deliver robust, scalable solutions that support trading and risk functions. After a three-month in-office period, the position offers flexible working arrangements within the country of payroll.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative, high-performance software solutions that support front-office modelling, analytics and trading activities.
- Collaborate closely with traders, structuring teams and market specialists to translate business needs into robust technical solutions.
- Build and enhance multi-asset trading and risk-management platforms used across global financial markets.
- Deliver reliable, scalable systems across a wide range of projects, from client-facing GUIs to server-side engines and large-scale reporting tools.
- Apply Haskell and our in-house variant Mu to design clean, maintainable and efficient code for mission-critical applications.
- Contribute to quantitative modelling by implementing tools that help the bank understand and manage risk exposure.
- Ensure all development adheres to regulatory, compliance and operational-risk requirements, maintaining high standards of integrity and conduct.
- Support continuous improvement by strengthening internal processes, documentation and engineering best practices.
- Work collaboratively with global teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to a positive, inclusive and high-performance culture.
Technical Skills
- Strong Haskell programming skills (or typed functional programming experience).
- Solid computer-science knowledge: algorithms, data structures, complexity, concurrency/parallelism.
- Experience with large-scale systems, risk modelling or quantitative development is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Git, Azure DevOps, code reviews, documentation and project tracking.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable insights.
- High ethical standards and commitment to regulatory compliance.
- Prior experience in financial markets, risk systems or front-office technology (nice to have, not required).
- Experience working with traders, structuring teams or analytics functions.
- Understanding of governance, operational risk, and compliance processes.
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field.
