Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer with a strong full-stack development background and DevOps expertise to join our team. In this role, you will be a key player in the entire software development lifecycle, taking ownership of projects from conception to production, ensuring solutions are designed, built, deployed, and maintained to the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance. This role involves designing and maintaining scalable backend systems using Python / Java and PostgreSQL, 
while also contributing to frontend development using JavaScript / ReactJS.

Required
•    Proficient in full-stack development, with experience in front-end frameworks (React.js), back-end technologies (Java, Spring Boot, Python), and API design.
•    Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline software delivery and enable rapid iteration in Azure DevOps
•    Strong PL/SQL & database knowledge , including data modelling, query optimization, and experience with both relational and NoSQL databases.
•    Expertise in solution design and software architecture.
•    Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
•    Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
•    Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

As responsibilities may be wide ranging and will increase with time, to start with we expect to be responsible/ accountable for few of the below areas:

•    End-to-End Ownership
o    Take full ownership of projects, driving them from initial concept and design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
o    Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define project scope, and establish clear objectives.
o    Ensure solutions adhere to all relevant standards, processes, and security protocols throughout the entire lifecycle.
o    Self-driven individual
•    Solution Design and Software Architecture: 
o    Contribute to the design and architecture of scalable, resilient, and secure systems, considering factors like performance, availability, cost, and security, with a focus on database design and optimization.
o    Provide guidance on technology selection, design patterns, and best practices for software development, including database technologies and data modelling techniques.
o    Collaborate with development teams to ensure that applications are designed for observability, automation, and testability, including efficient database interactions and query optimization.
o    Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability, including new database technologies and data management approaches
•    Full-Stack Development: 
o    Design, develop, and maintain user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks like React.js, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.
o    Build robust and scalable backend systems using languages like Java, Spring Boot, and Python, with a focus on API design, microservices architecture, and efficient database integration.
o    Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code, adhering to coding standards and best practices, including secure coding practices for database interactions.
o    Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and contributing to a culture of continuous learning.

•    Automation: 
o    Automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and scaling using Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Ansible, including database provisioning and configuration.
o    Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline software delivery and enable rapid iteration, incorporating database changes and schema migrations using Azure DevOps
o    Automate routine tasks, operational processes to improve efficiency and reduce human error, including database maintenance tasks like backups and restores.
o    Experience working on Containers and Kubernetes, in building images and deploying the containers in production environment.

•    Database Expertise: 
o    Demonstrate strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling, query optimization, and performance tuning.
o    Experience with database administration tasks, including backup and recovery, security management, and performance monitoring.
o    Ability to design and implement efficient data access layers and optimize database interactions for performance and scalability

Strategy

•    Define automation standards and solution framework that are outcome based, reusable, simpler, easier to adopt
•    Lead, Define and Design Automation and native tools for accelerating cloud adoption/migration
•    Work in partnership with fellow cyber security product owners and other automation domains to deliver standardized and cost-effective automation solutions
•    Work with cyber security teams to ensure technology products and solutions onboarded are in line to bank’s cyber security standards
•    Develop backend and front end libraries and services for running and maintaining of release engineering


Business
•    Drive change and adoption of new technology & delivery model with Agile, Dev Ops, Cloud first and identify working opportunities on innovation
•    Deliver solutions, patterns and frameworks that will reduce cost of running technology by reducing excessing human resources, refraining by implementing isolated solutions
•    Prioritise risk remediation and risk buy down use cases

Processes
•    Design, develop, and maintain efficient and scalable backend and frontend processes using Python, and PostgreSQL.
•    Develop and maintain frontend pages using Javascript, ReactJS
•    Periodic review of all key success measures of running tooling and automation – including ROI or Benefits delivered, define operationalization metrices, and monitoring and make course corrections to improve the efficacy of automation solutions
•    Follow Agile/Scrum methodologies to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software.
•    Ensure automation and tooling adoption are incorporated to product/vendor selection, tested and verified fit for BAU/production


People & Talent 
•    Build and drive engineering culture by mentoring and promoting technology solutions to solve operations problems and opportunity.
•    Promote diversity and inclusion within and across ICS to enhance engineering culture
•    Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Cross Hive Leads, product managers, and DevOps engineer

Risk Management
•    Identify potential risks in systems and implement mitigation strategies to ensure system reliability and security 
•    Conduct regular code reviews and performance audits to maintain high standards of quality 
•    Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and implement security best practices


Governance 
•    Ensure processes are complying to the Bank standard. 

Regulatory & Business Conduct 
•    Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Other Responsibilities

•    Able to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment
•    Experience with Agile software development practice
•    Recommended to have basic understanding in cyber security technology domains, including identity and access management, privacy and data protection, application security, threat management, cryptography and risk management
•    Experience with modern solution engineering approaches such as build and test automation, continuous integration, continuous deployment, Blue-Green, Agile, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, virtualization, containerization, serverless, and the technologies that support these approaches

Qualifications

•    Undergraduate level qualification with Bachelor in Engineering or Computer Science
•    Strong English communication skills
•    Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
