Job Summary
This role could be based in India or Malaysia. When you start the application process you will be presented with a drop-down menu showing all countries, please ensure that you only select a country where the role is based.
• The role will translate business questions and metric requirements into governed, reusable and analytics-ready data products.
• The role will design metric logic, conceptual and logical data models, source-to-target transformation requirements, data quality controls and semantic structures for consumption through dashboards, management reporting and future analytical use cases.
• The role is expected to combine strong business analysis and KPI design capability with hands-on data modelling and SQL skills; it is not a dashboard-development-only position.
Key Responsibilities
• Define and maintain the product vision, scope, requirements and acceptance criteria for performance-management data products.
• Translate business questions, metric definitions and reporting needs into reusable datasets, data contracts, source-to-target mappings and engineering-ready specifications.
• Design conceptual, logical and dimensional data models, including facts, dimensions, keys, relationships, hierarchies, grain, history and aggregation requirements.
• Design and govern KPI definitions, formulae, thresholds, RAG logic, dimensions, ownership, refresh frequency, exceptions and reconciliation rules.
• Partner with data engineers and platform teams to specify, review and validate ETL / ELT pipelines and curated data layers in the data lake.
• Define data quality checks, control totals and validation routines; investigate variances and coordinate remediation with accountable owners.
• Maintain business glossaries, metadata, lineage, model documentation, change logs, ownership and approval evidence from source through to reporting output.
• Work with dashboard developers to create fit-for-purpose semantic and consumption layers that support performance, drill-down and consistent calculation.
• Analyse datasets and profile sources to identify gaps, duplication, anomalies and opportunities to simplify or standardise reporting logic.
• Support testing, implementation, release and adoption of data products, including UAT evidence, reconciliation, issue management and transition to BAU.
Strategy
• Contribute to the shift from manual and dashboard-specific transformation towards governed, reusable data products and a consistent performance metric layer.
• Help establish scalable data-product, metric-governance and data-modelling standards that support executive reporting, self-service analytics and future AI-enabled consumption.
• Challenge duplication and localised logic, promoting reuse, simplification, traceability and clear ownership.
Business
• Build a strong understanding of T&O performance, risk and operational reporting needs and convert these into prioritised data-product outcomes.
• Facilitate requirement and metric-design workshops with business owners; clarify intended decisions, users, data grain, measures, dimensions and controls.
• Provide clear options and recommendations where source data, definitions or ownership are incomplete or inconsistent.
Processes
• Profile and assess source datasets, documenting structure, keys, data types, quality constraints and dependencies.
• Produce business requirements, metric specification documents, data models, source-to-target mappings, transformation rules and acceptance criteria.
• Partner with engineering teams to review proposed pipelines, models and platform designs for alignment to business and reporting consumption needs.
• Coordinate data-product backlog, priorities, dependencies, risks, testing and releases using disciplined delivery practices.
• Validate outputs against agreed definitions and source totals before release; ensure defects and exceptions are recorded, owned and resolved.
• Manage controlled changes to data models and metrics, including impact analysis across downstream reports and dashboards.
People & Talent
• Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to enhance the quality and timely delivery of agreed book of work.
• Foster strong relationships with stakeholders assigned to support their data driven decision and identify requirements to ensure that the T&O Performance Management meet business needs
• Work collaboratively across Performance Management, data engineering, technology, CDO, risk, finance, HR and other data-owning teams.
• Share modelling, metric-design and data-governance practices with colleagues and help raise the team capability in data-product thinking.
Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and support dashboard developers in adopting curated datasets:
• Help the People Leader identify, escalate and resolve issues that have the potential to hinder or delay the implementation of the required steps
• Identify and escalate data risks, quality issues, control gaps, unclear ownership and delivery dependencies that could affect reporting accuracy or timeliness.
• Apply appropriate access, confidentiality, privacy and information-security requirements to data-product design and use.
Ensure material assumptions, limitations, exceptions and unresolved reconciliations are transparent to relevant stakeholders:
• Maintain clear ownership information, change control, and auditability of metrics definitions and reporting methodologies
• Maintain audit-ready evidence of metric definitions, source lineage, transformation logic, data quality controls, approvals, version history and change decisions.
• Ensure clear accountability for business definitions, source data, engineering implementation, validation and downstream consumption.
• Provide timely and accurate analysis and actively challenge requirements that introduce duplication, inconsistency or avoidable manual processing.
• Operate within applicable Group standards, policies, governance forums and delivery controls.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
• Group’s Values and Code of Conduct
• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance, in letter and spirit, with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
Key stakeholders
• T&O Risk and Governance leadership and Business Planning Managers
• T&O Performance Management, executive reporting and dashboard-development teams
• Business metric owners, data owners and subject-matter experts across T&O
• CDO, data engineering, architecture, platform and technology teams
• Risk, Finance, HR and other functions providing authoritative data or consuming performance products
• Programme and product teams delivering strategic telemetry, data-lake and reporting capabilities
Skills and Experience
• Data Modelling
• Metric and KPI Design
• SQL and Data Analysis
• Data Product Management
• ETL / ELT and Data Transformation
• Data Governance, Quality and Lineage
Qualifications
• Relevant experience in data products, analytics engineering, business intelligence, information modelling, data analysis or data governance within a complex enterprise environment.
• Demonstrable experience translating business and metric requirements into models, transformation logic, specifications and validation criteria.
• Strong SQL capability for data profiling, transformation design, validation and investigation.
• Working knowledge of dimensional modelling, including fact and dimension design, grain, keys, hierarchies, history and aggregation.
• Experience defining source-to-target mappings and ETL / ELT requirements and working with data engineers through build, test and release.
• Experience designing KPI frameworks, metric definitions, calculation methodologies, thresholds and reporting hierarchies.
• Understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage, business glossary, change control and reconciliation practices.
• Exposure to enterprise data lakes, cloud data platforms or curated analytics layers; Databricks, Azure, Python / PySpark, dbt, Dataiku or comparable tools is advantageous.
