Title: Software Engineer/ DevOps & Platform Engineer

Job Summary
• We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Platform Engineer to join our Messaging Platform Engineering team. In this role, you’ll build, support, and scale the infrastructure and tooling that powers mission-critical messaging systems such as Solace, IBM MQ, Apache Kafka, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), and Managed File Transfer (MFT).
• You’ll work closely with integration specialists, software engineers, and infrastructure teams to ensure our platforms are reliable, observable, secure, and easy to operate.
• This role is ideal for an experienced software generalist with deep expertise in areas like distributed systems, infrastructure as code, networking, or cloud-native delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
• Knowledge of technology best practices for building a modern automated DevOps platform
Business
• Build and manage a modern, automated, cloud-native, continuous delivery pipeline.
• Build and manage resources across on-prem and cloud for our business to use.
• Understand and provide the security, compliance, regulation of banking systems.
Processes
• Good understanding of technologies and experience in building a highly scalable and fault tolerant system
People & Talent
• Build and maintain the infrastructure and automation for deploying and managing messaging systems like Solace, Kafka, MQ, ESB, and MFT.
• Design and implement release strategies such as blue-green deployments, canary rollouts, and progressive delivery for messaging components.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application delivery using tools like Azure Devops, etc.
• Deploy, scale, and monitor services in Kubernetes, OpenShift, and AWS EKS, using Helm and Terraform.
• Implement observability tooling including metrics, logs, traces, and health dashboards using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and OpenTelemetry.
• Collaborate with SRE teams to reduce operational toil, automate runbooks, and improve incident response tooling.
• Apply strong understanding of distributed systems principles to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
• Configure and troubleshoot networking components, including DNS, load balancers.
• Use Ansible and other automation tools for configuration and provisioning across environments.
• Advocate and enforce best practices in cloud engineering, security, and operational excellence.
Risk Management
• Ensures area integrity, minimizes technical debt.
Governance
• Sets architectural direction for the area, performs code review for significant changes in the area & responsible for system governance activities.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Key Requirements
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in Technology
- We are looking for a versatile engineer with strong software development, DevOps skills to join our platform team. You will help build and automate reliable, scalable systems and developer tooling across cloud-native environments.
- Proficient in Java (Spring Boot preferred) or any mainstream programming language.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
- Hands-on experience with Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Familiar with AWS cloud, Linux systems, and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Knowledge of observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK).
- Experience in WebMethods, integration and middleware technologies: API gateways, Enterprise Service Bus, Solace, MQ, Managed File Transfer, or iPaaS.
