RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy
•    Drive the engineering strategy for assigned platforms/components, aligning delivery roadmaps to FSS priorities, architecture standards, and agreed service levels.
•    Translate business outcomes into clear technical direction (target state architecture, design patterns, non-functional requirements, and phased delivery plans).
•    Champion modern engineering practices (automation, DevSecOps, observability, resiliency) to improve time-to-market and reduce operational risk.
•    Partner with Product, Operations and Technology stakeholders to prioritise demand, manage dependencies, and continuously improve client and user experience.

Business
•    Deliver high-quality software changes that support business growth, client servicing, and regulatory/method-of-operation requirements for Custody/FSS platforms.
•    Work closely with Business Analysts, Product Owners and Ops to refine requirements and ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable and supportable.
•    Own delivery commitments for assigned features (scope, timelines, quality), escalating early where trade-offs are required.
•    Improve platform stability and cost efficiency through performance tuning, right-sizing, and proactive defect/technical debt reduction.

Processes
•    Lead end-to-end SDLC delivery (analysis, design, build, code review, testing, release, hypercare) following agreed engineering and change standards.
•    Produce and maintain technical artefacts (HLD/LLD, API contracts, data mappings, runbooks, support guides) to enable smooth BAU handover.
•    Implement CI/CD pipelines and automated testing; enforce quality gates (static analysis, unit/integration tests, security scans) to reduce defects and rework.

•    Ensure production readiness through capacity planning, monitoring/alerting, logging, and defined operational support procedures.
•    Support incident/problem management by performing root-cause analysis, driving permanent fixes, and tracking actions to closure.

People & Talent
•    Provide technical leadership within the squad/team through pairing, coaching, and constructive code reviews; promote consistent engineering standards.
•    Contribute to hiring and onboarding (interviews, technical assessments, induction, knowledge transfer) to build and retain high-quality engineering capability.
•    Develop and maintain a skills uplift plan across key technologies (Java, Kafka, Spark, databases, DevOps), ensuring resilience through cross-skilling and documentation.
•    Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture aligned to Valued Behaviours and “Here for good”, encouraging continuous improvement and learning.

Risk Management
•    Identify, assess and manage technology and operational risks across the delivery lifecycle, ensuring controls are designed-in (security, resiliency, access, data handling).
•    Ensure adherence to secure coding practices and vulnerability remediation expectations; support risk acceptance/exception processes where required.
•    Maintain strong control discipline for changes (peer review, testing evidence, segregation of duties, deployment approvals) and ensure audit-ready documentation.
•    Proactively monitor and improve production stability; drive timely incident response and root-cause fixes to reduce recurrence and client impact.
•    Escalate material risks and issues early to technology management and control partners; track mitigation actions to completion.

Governance
•    Comply with Group and local policies/standards (architecture, SDLC, change, security, data, records) and ensure solutions meet required control checkpoints.
•    Participate in design/architecture reviews and governance forums as needed; ensure decisions, risks and exceptions are documented and approved.
•    Maintain traceability from requirements to implementation and testing; support internal/external audit, risk reviews, and management information requests.
•    Ensure vendor/open-source usage and third-party integrations follow approved governance, licensing and security requirements.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

•    Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
•    Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
