Job Summary
We are seeking talented and motivated individuals for the role of Chapter Lead, Backend Engineer. Successful candidates will be experienced programmers who can lead a team, develop user stories, write test cases, debug code, design, and develop solutions in an environment with constant collaborative discussions. An ideal candidate should be comfortable working in an agile environment who can design, code, deploy and participate in the release deployment cycle and work with multiple squads or hives to deliver complex features, epics and releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Minimum experience of 12+ years in IT industry with at least 10 years of relevant experience
- Proficient in RESTful API, SpringBoot 3.x, SpringBatch
- Should have knowledge on Relational or No-SQL Databases
- Should be able to come up with Technical Solution diagrams and Architecture for initiatives.
- Preferred to have knowledge on API Gateways, API security, OAuth 2, OIDC etc.
- Should be proficient in analyzing logs using ELK/Logstash/Kibana
- Should be independently able to manage CICD tasks using Azure ADO, Maven & Helm Charts
- Experienced in Container Infrastructure such as Kubernetes, OCP or AWS EKS.
- Experienced working in an Agile environment with globally distributed teams.
- Experience in Lead a Team of minimum 5 members.
Strategy
- Oversees the execution of functional standards and best practices and provide technical assistance to the members of the chapter
- Responsible for the quality of the code repository where applicable.
- Acts as a conduit for the wider domain strategy, for example technical standards.
- Act as a custodian for Java backend expertise.
Business
- Experienced practitioner and hands on contribution to the squad delivery for their craft (Eg. Engineering).
- Responsible to evolve the craft towards improving automation, simplification and innovative use of latest market trends.
- Collaborate with product owners and other tech leads to ensure applications meet functional requirements and strategic objectives
Processes
- Promote a feedback-rich environment, utilizing internal and external insights to continuously improve chapter operations.
- Adopt and embed the Change Delivery Standards throughout the lifecycle of the product / service.
- Follows the chapter operating model to ensure a system exists to continue to build capability and performance of the chapter.
People & Talent
- Contribute to technical innovation and share knowledge within the engineering community.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies, lead internal workshops and seminars, encourage team participation in innovation initiatives.
Risk Management
- Responsible for effective capacity risk management across the Chapter with regards to attrition and leave plans.
- Adheres to common practices to mitigate risk in their respective domain.
- Design and uphold a robust risk management plan, with contingencies for succession and role continuity, especially in critical positions
Governance
- Manage and mitigate technical risks in the delivery.
- Align with technology architects on the target solution design to minimize technical debt.
- Identify Applicable Security controls by engaging with Security Champs
- Comply with System Delivery controls and attest for it with every (technical) release to production.
- Complete comprehensive security impact assessments to ensure compliance with governance requirements and mitigate potential risks.
- Ensure compliance with bank compliance guidelines & standards (e.g., data protection), address tech compliance (ESDLC) requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle

- Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
- Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Qualifications
- BE / BTech / MCA in Computer Science
- Graduation or Post-Graduation in Computer Science Engineering or related field
- Experience in the software development using Agile methodologies

- Knowledge & Experience in J2EE and good understanding of OOA and OOP
- Knowledge & Experience in Integration technologies – MQ, Kafka, Solace
- Knowledge / Experience in Container platform and Cloud technologies
- More than 12+ years’ experience in software development domain
- Proven experience in solution management, business development, or a related field
- Strong understanding of the software development life cycle and experience with agile methodologies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and partners
- Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of technology and the ability to learn new technologies quickly
