Job Summary

 

The Financial Institution Clearing and Liquidity Collections Billing business supports all Group operations, owning pillars under Financial Institution Clearing and LCB Hive for USD, EUR, GBP, and JPY transactions. This critical application suite requires constant service with reputational and regulatory implications for the Group.
The Production Engineer: Financial Institution Clearing and Liquidity Collections Billing works within a multi-competency capability, including vendor management, architecture, full-stack engineering, business solutions, and DevOps. The role involves supporting scalable, resilient solutions from vendors and delivering a technology strategy with the Cash product & COO team for current and future needs, focusing on client experience, time to market, stability, resilience, scalability, cost efficiency, and new working methods.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

- Part of SRE Production Engineering team to enhance application and infrastructure resiliency through self-healing and automated failovers, targeting 99.9% uptime.
- Oversee production infrastructure disruptions to ensure resilient systems.
- Develop automated predictive analysis for capacity needs and drive proactive upgrades.
- Using Standard Chartered’s SDI, develop auto-scaling for service demand resilience.
- Meet SLA/XLA expectations for critical user service journeys, ensuring 24x7 service.
- Implement 'always on' techniques like caching and circuit breakers.
- Manage, monitor, and optimize reliability and health of environments.
- Design and implement fixes to improve service availability.
- Drive conversation on development velocity using SLIs/SLOs data.
- Review SLI/SLO/Error Budget policies for accurate customer experience indicators.
- Partner with development teams for scalable, resilient, high-performance applications.
- Optimize monitoring to reduce false positives and capabilities using logs, metrics, and traces.
- Ensure traceability of critical user service journeys and production solutions are fit for purpose and uplift toolsets.
- Establish and manage SRE team when needed.
- Drive efficient operating model and enhance team capabilities.
- Identify key issues and implement controls to mitigate risks.
- Understand the risk and control environment within Technology Services.
- Ensure support procedures adhere to Group Security & Audit policies.
- Engage with audit issues in this support environment.
- Assess governance effectiveness and oversee necessary changes.
- Understand the regulatory framework and relevant expectations.

 

Skills and Experience

 

- Minimum bachelor degree in Computer Science/IT
- Business Acumen: Knowledge of the business domain and how the critical application supports business objectives
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, understand their requirements, and manage expectations
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical issues
- Decision-Making: Ability to make informed decisions quickly in high-pressure situations
- Collaboration: Experience working in cross-functional teams and fostering a collaborative environment
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer Focus: Strong focus on customer satisfaction and service delivery
- Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards relevant to the industry

 

 

Technical Skills:

- Python commercial Scripting / shell (or equivalent)
- SWIFT Messaging in Financial Markets Preferred
UNIX/Linux, AIX 
- Prognosis, Prometheus, ITRS, ELK or equivalent monitoring systems
- Apache Kafka, IBM MQ, Solace (or equivalent)
- Java
- Microservices good to have
- DevOps Tools (or equivalent) Automation experience with at least one configuration and deployment management systems such as Chef, Ansible or Puppet 
- Control-M (or equivalent)
- Good Working knowledge in Infrastructure – Networking / Database (oracle) / web services
