The role partners with regional, country and business stakeholders to identify, assess, manage and escalate regulatory, conduct, financial crime and compliance risks in a manner proportionate to the nature, scale and complexity of the business.
The role holder will combine broad CFCR expertise, commercial understanding and sound judgement to advise on complex client, transaction, product and business matters. The role requires confidence operating in areas where requirements may be principles-based, facts are incomplete or there is no prescribed process, while maintaining independence and ensuring that decisions are evidence-based, appropriately governed and documented.
Key Responsibilities
-
Strategy
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the CFCR Coverage Advisory strategy for CIB Client Coverage across MEP, aligned to the Bank’s strategic direction and risk appetite.
- Promote a consistent regional advisory model while recognising relevant country laws, regulations, supervisory expectations and market practices.
- Establish and maintain strong links with CFCR colleagues across client segments, products, specialist teams and countries to support a coordinated One Bank approach.
- Provide CFCR input to business strategy, operating model design, transformation and material change initiatives.
Business Advisory and Partnering
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of CIB Client Coverage business models, client segments, products, transaction flows and strategic priorities across MEP.
- Provide timely, practical and risk-based advice on client and transaction matters, new business initiatives, product or process changes, bespoke projects and remediation activities.
- Identify and challenge activities that may be outside risk appetite, regulatory expectations or Group standards, escalating where necessary until appropriate ownership and action are established.
- Partner constructively with the business and control functions, balancing commercial objectives with sustainable CFCR outcomes and fair client treatment.
- Assess complex corporate structures, ownership arrangements, client activity, trading patterns and other indicators to identify potential red flags or emerging risks.
- Support the resolution of competing or overlapping legal and regulatory requirements, engaging relevant subject-matter experts where required.
Processes
- Provide oversight and challenge over the implementation of CFCR policies, standards, procedures and controls relevant to CIB Client Coverage across MEP.
- Support the establishment and maintenance of practical, risk-based processes and documented hand-offs between the business, CFCR Coverage Advisory and specialist teams.
- Advise on the interpretation and application of internal policies, standards and external regulatory expectations, including circumstances not explicitly addressed by a DOI or process note.
- Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of management information, trackers, service standards and governance arrangements for regional coverage.
- Use data, intelligence and thematic insights to identify trends, concentrations, control gaps and opportunities for proactive risk mitigation.
Risk Management
- Act as an independent second-line adviser and provide specialist review, oversight and constructive challenge in relation to relevant conduct, financial crime and compliance risks.
- Proactively identify, assess and communicate current and horizon risks that may affect CIB Client Coverage across MEP, and recommend proportionate mitigation strategies.
- Support annual and event-driven CFCR risk assessments, thematic reviews, high-risk client reviews and other targeted assessments relevant to regional coverage.
- Provide oversight of risk acceptances, mitigating action plans and remediation, ensuring material matters are tracked, escalated and reported through appropriate governance channels.
- Support the management of significant regulatory, conduct, financial crime or compliance issues, including root-cause analysis, lessons learned and sustainable remediation.
- Collaborate with relevant monitoring, surveillance, assurance, investigations and audit teams, and follow through on findings relevant to the role’s coverage.
- Escalate serious breaches, material control weaknesses or risk tolerance concerns promptly to the appropriate senior management and governance forums.
Governance
- Provide clear, concise and decision-useful reporting to relevant regional, country, business and risk governance forums.
- Ensure material risks, issues, dependencies and overdue actions are transparently recorded and escalated through appropriate channels.
- Contribute to robust product, client and transaction governance by ensuring CFCR considerations are appropriately reflected in submissions and decisions.
- Recommend control enhancements, simplifications and preventive actions where these will improve risk outcomes, effectiveness or efficiency.
- Maintain appropriate records of material advice, challenge, decisions and escalation in accordance with applicable requirements.
Regulatory and Business Conduct
- Maintain a strong understanding of applicable regulatory expectations across MEP and translate them into practical implications for CIB Client Coverage.
- Support preparation for regulatory reviews, inspections, audits and supervisory engagements relevant to CIB Client Coverage, including coordinated responses and remediation.
- Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
- Take personal responsibility for embedding high standards of ethics and for identifying, escalating, mitigating and resolving regulatory, conduct, financial crime and compliance matters.
People and Talent
- Promote a culture of openness, trust, inclusion, curiosity and risk awareness, where ethical and policy-compliant conduct is the norm.
- Share knowledge, practical experience, regulatory insights and lessons learned across the regional CFCR network.

- Strong understanding of how complex companies operate, including corporate and ownership structures, transaction flows, red flags, client behaviour and trading patterns.
