Job Summary

The role holder, working closely with in house economists and analysts, produces high quality research for the Bank’s internal and external customers. The role will involve producing and communicating the teams’ views on Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China to clients globally.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering a range of client-led research approaches for content, content delivery and client engagement across Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China.
  • Undertake in depth research on Hong Kong, Taiwan and Greater Bay Area economics and markets for publications and presentations.
  • Construct and manage data bases and prepare charts for research publications. 
  • Respond to management requests for data, information and analysis as required.  Prepare ad-hoc reports and summaries based on in depth knowledge of the latest global research forecasts, insights and publications.
  • Develop relationships within the Global Research team, senior management, Risk and Corporate affairs. Externally with clients, economists, researchers and policy-makers around the world in institutes, government, academia, media and the private sector
  • Ensure adherence to all internal and external regulations
  • Be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the Group
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them 
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret the Group’s financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures
  • Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment in Global Research
  • Ensure adherence to the product governance both individually and within the global team
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
  • Be responsible for delivering ‘effective governance’; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner. 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in economics or closely related subject and experience in Investment Research, including emerging markets.
  • Relevant experience from financial institutions, central banks, think tanks, government related positions.
  • Advanced presentation skills.
  • Ability to write to a high standard and have excellent communications skills is essential.
  • Proficient in English, Mandarin and Cantonese
