SUMMARY

As a Trade Legal Counsel for the Corporate Institutional Banking (CIB) business, you will play a crucial role in providing expert trade legal advice and support to our trade business. You will be responsible for managing a wide range of trade legal matters, from letters of credit, bank guarantees, risk participations, invoice financing and other trade distribution products.. This position requires a deep understanding of banking and finance, particularly in the area of trade.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and support to the CIB Trade teams on all legal matters relating to trade finance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business operations and transactions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including senior management, to develop and implement legal strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Stay abreast of legal developments and industry trends to provide proactive and strategic legal guidance.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel and coordinate external legal services as needed.
  • Conduct legal research and provide training to business units on relevant legal issues and best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree from an accredited institution.
  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a law firm or legal role within the financial services industry, with a focus on commercial and institutional.
  • Strong knowledge of banking and trade laws, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal documents.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
