Job Summary
As a Product Owner in Transaction Banking (TB) Trade you will be the key link between the business vision and technical execution. You own the product backlog, define priorities and ensure the team delivers maximum value in every sprint. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, you’ll translate customers needs into clear requirements and guide the team toward impactful product outcomes for clients. It’s a dynamic, fast-paced role that requires strategic thinking, customer empathy and a passion for delivering exceptional products
In Standard Chartered Bank’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), we aim to be digital-first and data-driven, delivering enhanced client experiences, driving new wallet share and realizing untapped client value and market opportunities through a front to back approach with a wholistic view of the client journey
As part of this we are replatforming the existing mainframe bank in a box solution in Korea and bringing this onto the standard Group platforms. This includes Trade & Working Capital where we are simultaneously on a journey to replatform our existing legacy mainframe documentary trade and monolithic distributed open account platforms
The role of Product Owner for Korea Trade replatforming is responsible for first in conjunction with the local product team to document all deviations from group standard in both product offering and features and the operations processing. This includes documenting undocumented processes within Trade Operations and other participants supporting features within the product including non-standard turnaround times, etc
Having documented all deviations work with local and central product teams to determine fate of all uncovered deviations. Ensuring that all continuation of deviations are supported by solid business cases and agreed with central product team
Ensure that all decisions to make changes to the offering and align with standards are implemented a minimum of six months prior to the relevant product goes live on the strategic trade platform. While the responsibility and accountability for this rest with the local product team you as the Product Owner for this delivery need to be kept informed of this and you are responsible for escalating where you see failure to progress in accordance with the required timelines.
Job Responsibilities
• Accountable for ensuring appropriate frameworks and operational infrastructures are in place to enable the business processes to be efficient and compliant with internal policies, procedures, codes and applicable external laws and regulations.
• Ensure tight collaboration with Risk and Control, Compliance, Security and other areas to prevent any issues related to the digital channel access by external and internal clients. Accountable for working with the Group functions to ensure appropriate adherence to principles and policies to protect the bank and its clients.
• Establish processes which are aligned with the business and operational requirements and in line with the relevant product management responsibility and accountability within the executive teams
• Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations amongst colleagues and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
• Ensure active communication of vision, priorities and progress to the team to foster engagement, awareness and motivation.
• Drive a high-performance culture in the team
• Adherence to all Group Policies and relevant legislation covering credit, operational, reputational risk among others across all asset classes and associated post-trade processes
• Commitment and adherence to Group Code of Conduct
• Ensure product development aligns to internal governance frameworks that sets out the requirements for the design, implementation, and maintenance of data solutions.
• Where material changes are made to existing solutions, ensure compliance to process change impact assessment and technology change impact assessments are completed.
Job Requirements
- At least 10 years of work experience in Trade finance products and processes with very good understanding of macro business environment, trends, and competition.
- Experience in large scale transformations/ change management projects preferred.
- Previous experience as a Product Owner or Business Lead for technology projects preferable
- Should be able to translate client needs and transition objectives into actionable and process.
- Understanding of the overall digitization tools and technology landscape, current trends and applicability in the business environment
- Ability to co-relate technology to transition, thereby possessing the ability to sell the concept to internal stakeholders
- Ability to respond effectively to change, managing work in a fast-paced matrix environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain productive lasting relationships, even in difficult situations, with diverse people spanning internal/external
- organizations
- Strong stakeholder management skills in engaging senior stakeholders
- Proven ability to perform under high pressure in a dynamic environment
- Ability to present to a large audience with comfort
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal management oversight
- Ability to work with cross functional teams across business and technology
- Experience in working with technology project teams, from the business perspective, a significant plus
