Title: Managing Director, Head Sustainable Finance, Greater China North Asia

Key Responsibilities
This role is responsible for leading the development and execution of the Bank’s Sustainable Finance (“SF”) strategy within Coverage across Greater China North Asia ("GCNA") markets including Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Key responsibilities include:
- Originate and structure innovative sustainable financing solutions, cultivate strong client relationships, and serve as the go-to expert on sustainable finance- acting as a key point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Upskill Relationship Managers and other partners within the bank on the most relevant emerging Sustainable Finance topics and best practices.
- Act as a global senior sustainability representative for clients and other external stakeholders including regulators.
The role holder will work closely with product partners, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement to identify and capitalise on strategic opportunities consistent with the overall bank-wide sustainability strategy.
Strategy
- Lead the development and execution of client strategies for SF products and services within Corporate and FI Coverage to meet client needs across all segments.
- Set and agree SF targets in collaboration with senior leaders within Coverage, Sustainable Finance leaders, and Product partners.
- Drive the SF strategy across client segments, clusters, and countries, including the development of impact and SF products and services to meet both client needs and investor demand. Develop unique and differentiated propositions tailored to each business and sub-segment to deliver measurable impact.
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities in emerging sustainable sectors. This includes strategic client engagement and transaction origination.
- Oversee and guide the execution of sustainable finance transactions working closely with the Strategic Advisory Team, Coverage Sustainability Leads, CSO and other partners across the bank.
- Support the development, promotion, and implementation of the Bank’s Position Statements within the first line of defence and related underlying environmental and social policies, standards, and practices.
- Work with partners across the Bank to help advance market specific sustainability strategies that become embedded within the relevant business.
- Collaborate with product teams to innovate and scale solutions that align with client needs and regulatory frameworks.
- Drive a coordinated sustainable finance plan across all segments to ensure effective upskilling and execution of the Coverage corporate plan.
- Support the Global Head of Corporate Coverage in identifying and positioning the Bank on key sustainable finance opportunities, themes, and topics.
- Support the Bank as a senior sustainability ambassador, helping to promote the sustainable finance franchise.
Business
- Actively originate new sustainable finance business and grow the franchise by capitalising on bank competitive attributes whilst developing new relationships where required.
- In collaboration with senior management and relationship managers, engage c-suite and decision makers of key clients to elevate sustainability dialogue with clients, promoting a move away from ‘transactional’ reactive client coverage to consistent value-added partner/trusted advisor status.
- Maintain good understanding and of the Bank’s position on environmental themes and issues externally and internally, including the Position Statements, Equator Principles and associated standards and practices.
- Stay abreast and anticipate the developments of the industries in which our clients operate. Ensure that industry and product knowledge is continually developed personally and within the team.
Processes
- Proactively manage the designated Sustainable Finance client and product portfolio to ensure collaboration and effective execution with key stakeholders.
- Develop opportunities through attendance at key Industry or Regulatory events as necessary.
- Embed the Bank’s Sustainability ambitions into the day-to-day operations of coverage global / regional front facing processes.
- Influence the evolution of the bank’s Sustainability Frameworks and Position Statements
- Educate partners across the bank on the most relevant emerging Sustainable Finance topics and best practices.
- Be a culture carrier for sustainable finance across the organisation, collaborating with all businesses and functions to ensure Coverage is appropriately integrated.
People & Talent
- Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from broader team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
- Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
- Employ, engage, and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
- Training and capacity building of the coverage teams.
Risk Management
- Take the initiative regarding regulatory, reputational, and ethical matters, and for providing proactive advice to clients as identified.
- Coach and manage the team in these matters and ensure they are adequately trained in and cognisant of regulatory, reputational, and ethical risks.
- Ensure that key regulatory risks and concerns are raised into the governance framework throughout the team.
Governance
- Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the Group’s arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight, and controls in the business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas.
- Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
- Responsible for delivering ‘effective governance’; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.
