Job Summary
The Associate Vice President – Data LARC is responsible for driving the organisation’s data agenda, including data strategy execution, data governance, data platform development, and advanced analytics enablement. The role partners with business, technology, and risk teams to ensure data is treated as a strategic asset, is well governed, high quality, secure, and effectively used to deliver business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Leadership
- Contribute to the definition and execution of the enterprise data strategy aligned with business and regulatory priorities.
- Translate strategic objectives into a clear roadmap for data platforms, data products, and analytics capabilities.
- Lead cross functional data initiatives across business units, technology, risk, and operations.
- Act as a key data SME and advisor to senior management on data related topics.
Data Governance & Quality
- Implement and oversee data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and controls.
- Define and maintain data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models.
- Establish data quality metrics and processes; monitor and drive remediation of data quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., data privacy, records management, model risk, local regulatory requirements as applicable).
Data Architecture & Platforms
- Oversee the design and evolution of data platforms (e.g., data warehouse, data lake, Lakehouse, MDM solutions).
- Work with architecture and engineering teams to ensure scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data infrastructure (cloud and/or on premise).
- Promote standardisation of data models, metadata, and integration patterns (APIs, ETL/ELT, streaming).
- Support selection and implementation of data tools (catalogue, lineage, quality, BI, analytics).
Advanced Analytics & BI Enablement
- Partner with analytics and business teams to identify use cases where data and analytics can create value (e.g., customer insights, risk analytics, operational efficiency).
- Enable self-service analytics through robust data models, semantic layers, and governed access.
- Oversee delivery of dashboards, reports, and data products that support decision making.
- Support data science and machine learning initiatives by providing reliable, well curated data.
Risk Management, Security & Compliance
- Ensure data management practices align with cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Embed data risk considerations into project lifecycle and change management processes.
- Work closely with Risk, Compliance, and Information Security to address findings, audits, and remediation actions.
Stakeholder Management & Change
- Engage senior business stakeholders to understand priorities and shape data solutions.
- Drive change management, training, and communication around data initiatives.
- Represent the data function in governance forums, steering committees, and project boards.
People Management
- Lead and develop a team of data professionals (e.g., data analysts, data engineers, data stewards).
- Set clear objectives, provide coaching, and build a culture of data ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of data management disciplines: data governance, data quality, metadata management, MDM, and data architecture.
- Hands on familiarity with modern data technologies (e.g., cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP; data warehouses; data lakes; ETL/ELT tools).
- Knowledge of BI and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik) and basic understanding of data science/ML concepts.
- Understanding of data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements relevant to the organisation’s jurisdiction(s).

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Typically, 10+ years of experience in data management, data engineering, analytics, or related domains, with several years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record delivering enterprise data initiatives (e.g., data platform implementation, governance programmes, analytics solutions).
- Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., banking/financial services, insurance, healthcare) is an advantage.
