Job Summary

As a senior specialist, key responsibility is to strengthen banks' ability to detect technical incidents and mitigate their impacts through pro-active system monitoring, incident detection and management, and feeding back into development / SRE backlogs. You will also be responsible to identify optimal solution and standardize across hives in CCPL domain for a smooth ‘run’ the bank initiatives. Your responsibility also includes technology risk management and reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Eyes on glass monitoring for key CCPL customer journeys 
  • Ensure end to end automated monitoring or client and staff journeys using the group standard observability platform
  • Drive towards 100% system availability for clients and staff
  • Monitor production systems and applications for performance issues, errors, and anomalies.
  • Respond to alerts, incidents, and outages in a timely manner, following established escalation procedures and escalate to PSS teams where applicable/ 
  • Investigate and diagnose root causes of production incidents, working closely with development and operations teams to resolve issues.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues in production environments, including application failures, performance bottlenecks, and system outages.
  • Analyse log files, system metrics, and other diagnostic data to identify and resolve problems.
  • Implement and coordinate production changes, including software deployments, configuration changes, and infrastructure updates, following change management processes and best practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments and impact analyses for proposed changes and communicate changes to stakeholders.

  • Document production incidents, troubleshooting procedures, and resolutions in knowledge base articles and incident reports.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members to improve overall support capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, performance, and operational efficiency through automation, process improvements, and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and root cause analyses to identify systemic issues and prevent recurrence of incidents.
  • Collaborate with Problem and Incident management teams to ensure proper closure
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including management, internal customers, and technical teams, providing updates and status reports on production incidents and resolutions and send relevant comms

Strategy

  • Oversees the execution of functional standards and best practices and provide technical assistance to the members of their Chapter.
  • Responsible for the quality of the code repository where applicable.
  • Acts as a conduit for the wider domain strategy, for example technical standards.
  • Prioritises and makes available capacity for technical debt.
  • This role is around capability building, it is not to own applications or delivery.
  • Build and foster a design engineering excellence culture through leadership and direction. 
  • Thought Leadership, evangelism, on the competitive landscape and market trends to make informed product decisions.
  • Keep the long-term vision of the product in mind while addressing short-term goals and milestones. Continuously evaluate the app's performance and user engagement metrics to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Drive a modern approach to engineering excellence, ensuring fast, frequent, and high-quality value delivery. 

Business 

  • Promote engineering craftmanship and focus on delivering business value.
  • Responsible for technical delivery and technical excellence across the squads. 
  • Works across multiple squads or hives for delivery of complex Features, Epics & Releases.
  • Point of escalation for delivery issues across all impacted hives and squads.
  • Work with Change Delivery Manager (Release Manager) to develop delivery and release plans with technical dependencies, aligning all partners with support from the team and architect.
  • Exhibit passion for client experience with a user-first mindset.
  • Drive the domain towards future state of banking and technology.
  • Ensure the technical consistency of solutions in the Hive with the business architecture, technology architecture and enterprise technology standards
  • Trusted advisor to the business. Work hand in hand with the Business, taking product programs from investment decisions, into design, specification, and solution phases, all the way to operations on the ground and securing support services from other teams.
  • Manage business partner expectations. Ensure delivery to business meeting time, cost and with high quality

  • Study existing engineering processes and contribute to improvements to drive up efficiencies. Present ideas across other areas and foster innovation.
  • Analyse, remove, or mitigate dependencies across teams to enable speed and quality of delivery.
  • Responsible in the preparation of production outputs and their planning in alignment to ESDLC standards. 
  • Vendor Data Management - reviewing the data handling practices from the vendor to ensure they adhere to the data protection regulation and best practices defined by Standard Chartered bank.

People & Talent

  • May also take on Chapter Leadership as long as he/she is an active practitioner in the craft of the Chapter that they lead; i.e., has full accountability to the growth of the Chapter, and not solely a line management responsibility.
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality talent that the team is adequately staffed and skilled to deliver on business commitments.
  • Work on upskilling of technical expertise in line with latest market trend.
  • Mentoring and training the squad on technical skills.
  • Work with Engineering Led to ensure the agreed blend and balance of in-house and vendor resources.

Risk Management

  • Mitigate delivery risks and issues, and ensure quality, affordability, and scope of delivery.
  • Act as the risk control owner under the Group’s risk management framework at the appropriate level

Regulatory & Governance

  • Ensure all artefacts and assurance deliverables are as per the required standards and policies (e.g., SCB Governance Standards, ESDLC etc.).

Qualifications

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in Engineering Lead or similar role, supporting mission-critical systems and applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Continuous improvement of processes and tools to address business and technology risk
  • Ability to work with globally distributed teams and deliver required outcome
  • Ability to lead talented engineers to drive and implement changes and align to tech roadmap
  • Should be SME in one or more domains in Retail
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, with the ability to analyse complex issues and identify root causes.
  • Experience with incident management tools and processes, and familiarity with ITIL or similar frameworks.
  • Knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows), databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL), and networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python, PowerShell) for automation and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Nagios, Splunk, Prometheus) for system and application monitoring.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on delivering high-quality support and maintaining system uptime.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and off-hours support as needed.
