Title: Director, Legal Data Strategy & Analytics

Job Summary
The purpose of this role is to:
• Develop and deliver a comprehensive and proactive Data Analytics and Reporting strategy to enable a data-driven culture and in the Legal & Co-Sec function.
• Embed a thriving data culture and increased data maturity across the wider function.
• Define and maintain a data assurance programme to ensure data quality and integrity across the function.
• Play an individual contributor role for data engineering, data solutions and internal consulting on LEGAL & CO-SEC technologies that will produce, process or store data.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
• Develop and lead the implementation of the data solution to deliver a data architecture which allows for the identification, ingestion, storage, and use of data created by the wider LEGAL & CO-SEC function.
• Devise and implement metrics and reports to monitor functions KPIs and data quality, monitoring progress/trends and regularly reporting to the Head of Legal Operations/Legal COO.
• Develop and execute the AI chatbot strategy, lead the development team, and mentor team members.
• Ensure the integration of NLP and AI technologies is effective, guide technical decisions on architecture and tooling, and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Implement a data assurance programme to address data quality issues identified through the monitoring.
• Champion the use of tools or services such as data visualisation, dashboards etc which help to utilise the function’s data to drive better decision making, behaviour change to become more evidence centric.
• Create best practices, solution frameworks and techniques to deliver a best-in-class data analytics outfit.
Business
• Define and maintain the data roadmap/ book of work for the function, updating it as new sources are identified, technologies change etc.
• Oversee the implementation of a proactive insights programme, which identifies trends in complex data sets and makes recommendations regarding actions that should be taken or programmes that should be built.
• Establish data roadmaps in conjunction with the Legal Risk & Policy and Technology teams to manage the functions end-to-end data lifecycle.
• Establish a data knowledge bank and advisory function to enable improved data insights and enhanced productivity across the function.
• Act as a thought leader for data and reporting processes for the function on major technology projects including advising on the appropriateness of systems, considerations regarding implementation and overseeing implementation from D&I perspective.
• Oversee projects to implement the integration of new data sources into existing systems, procedures, etc., ensuring that users are trained, procedural documents are updated, and data is structured appropriately to maximise reporting ability.
• Manage relationships with data holders or providers and continue to build confidence in the LEGAL & CO-SEC data programme and related activities.
Processes
• Design the method and process to ingest data from data sources into a data lake, and then create the data modelling and business logic to transform and curate the data (including highlighting data issues of data errors, mismatching and blanks) into the required layout which can then be exposed for reporting purposes.
• Lead on reporting automation, using Tableau or other appropriate software, to standardise and ease the speed and accuracy of reporting.
• Perform horizon scanning on upcoming trends in data management practices, data science technologies and incorporate into ways of working.
• Implement a data assurance programme for the LEGAL & CO-SEC function to ensure data quality and alignment including the identification of issues and the planning of remediation activities. Maintain the data assurance programme to support quality data driven decisions.
• To negotiate access to new data sources and improve existing processes of acquiring data.
• Be client focused - evaluate business needs and objectives to deliver outputs that match or exceed the expectations.
• Work with stakeholders from product, Technology & engineering to align chatbot development with business needs and ensure seamless integration.
• Monitor chatbot performance, analyse interaction data, and use these insights to identify areas for improvement and execute A/B tests.
• Stay updated on the latest trends in AI, NLP, and chatbot technologies to continuously enhance chatbot capabilities and performance.
• Collaborate with Technology regarding the data infrastructure on maintenance and on relevant projects which impact Legal technology and data.
People & Talent
• Provide a clear leadership role. Comply with (and endeavour to ensure direct reports comply with) the Group Code of Conduct.
• Lead, motivate, retain, and mentor the Data team.
• Ensure the team are adequately resourced and staffed by competent staff to perform duties objectively and to create a best-in-class data solutions team (subject to budgetary constraints).
• Conduct normal managerial activities including having a growth and development mindset, annual reviews and coordinate teams objectives, book of work and ongoing activities.
• Actively develop and support the ongoing professional development of the team.
Risk Management
• Embed compliance with data management risks, including data quality, secrecy, privacy, records management and AI ethics in the design and use of data solutions.
• Ensure compliance with the risk management practices applicable for the role.
Governance
• To oversee decisions regarding security and database access.

Qualifications
• Strong experience in data engineering with technical expertise in data management (including end-to-end data lifecycle, data models, data mapping, data mining, etc).
• Experience of formulating operational strategy including KPIs (key performance indicators) and reporting on these.
• Proven experience to translate data and information into actionable insights tailored for stakeholder interests.
• Hands-on experience with database & data lake design & technologies (Hadoop eco-system, SQL, Dataiku, Tableau, etc.).
• Hands-on experience of programming languages - Python, SQL is a must.
• Knowledge of AI/ML, Gen-AI techniques and tools is a must.
• Strong understanding of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning.
• Experience in the principles and execution of data architecture in a complex client environment involving hybrid deployment of systems both on-premises and in the cloud.
• Substantial experience in data management or another relevant field.
• Substantial and proven people management experience.
• Strong executive communication skills and confidence in presenting, able to discuss with technical and non-technical audiences to foster discussion with senior stakeholders.
• Exemplary integrity, ethics, independence, and resilience. Ability to handle sensitive matters at all levels of the organisation with discretion and confidentiality.
• Able to perform effectively under pressure with good personal organisation, time management and prioritisation skills.
• Proven experience in setting up and running data assurance programmes.
• Working knowledge of information security and information privacy best practices.
• Data engineering certification on big data & Hadoop ecosystem is desirable.
• Knowledge of service desk principles or certification (e.g. ITIL) is desirable.
