Job Summary

  • The Direct and Indirect Tax Change Champion plays a critical role in driving successful tax process transformation initiatives within the bank. This individual will be responsible for leading and supporting change management activities related to direct and indirect tax processes, ensuring smooth and effective implementation of new tax policies, regulations, and technologies.


Strategy

  • Lead and Deliver Tax Change Initiatives:
  • Drive the development and implementation of global tax strategies and processes aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of tax process improvements, including automation, digitalization, and data analytics.
  • Oversee the implementation of new tax technologies and systems, including tax engines, data warehouses, and reporting platforms.
  • Manage the impact assessment of tax legislation changes and advise on appropriate mitigation strategies.

Business

  • Lead Change Management Initiatives: 
  • Support in the implementation of comprehensive change management strategies for all tax-related process transformations, including but not limited to: 
  • Tax technology implementations (e.g., new tax engines, automation tools)
  • Tax process re-engineering projects for DT/IDT
  • Compliance with new tax laws and regulations
  • Conduct thorough impact assessments to identify potential risks and challenges associated with tax-related changes.
  • Execute communication plans to effectively inform and engage stakeholders (e.g., tax teams, business units, IT) throughout the change process.
  • Proactively identify and highlight potential resistance to change within the tax function.
  • Drive Tax Process Improvement: 
  • Collaborate with tax teams and business units to identify and implement process improvements within the direct and indirect tax functions.
  • Leverage data analytics and process mapping techniques to optimize tax workflows and identify areas for automation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and tax governance frameworks.

  • Support Tax Technology Implementations: 
  • Actively participate in the implementation of new tax technologies, including system testing, user acceptance testing, and post-implementation support.
  • Provide training and support to tax teams on the use of new tax technologies.
  • Monitor the performance of new tax technologies and identify areas for improvement.

People & Talent 

  • Continuous Improvement: 
  • Continuously evaluate and refine change management methodologies and best practices.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement within the tax function.
  • Proactively seek feedback from stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of change management initiatives

Risk Management

  • Stay Abreast of Tax Legislation and Industry Best Practices: 
  • Research and evaluate industry best practices in tax process management and change management.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of emerging tax technologies and their potential applications within the banking industry.

Governance 

  • Project Management: 
  • Manage and deliver tax-related change management projects on schedule.
  • Develop and track project plans, monitor progress, and identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Ensure effective project documentation and reporting.

Regulatory & Business Conduct 

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Lead the Tax Change Initiatives to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles: [Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment.] 
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Qualifications

  • Professional qualification with a preference in a Business, Finance, Accountancy, Law or Taxation from a reputed institution with 15+ years’ experience. 
  • Strong process & data analysis skills, ability to prioritise and manage work to defined time lines / budgets;
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders;
  • Confident and capable user of Micro Soft applications like Excel, Word, MPP. SQL knowledge is preferable. 
  • Ability to think laterally and critically, challenge status-quo and demonstrate innovative thinking;
  • Good working knowledge of international banking products, systems  and/or processes including a previous work experience in any data warehouse infrastructure is highly preferable;
  • Previous experience of regulatory reporting project would be an advantage
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
