Job Description: 

Job Summary

The Risk Utility Checker is a control and quality assurance role within the SCM TPRM Centre of Excellence (CoE). This role will provide independent, consistent and high quality-checking of third-party risk assessments performed by the Contract Owners in the respective businesses and functions, ensuring that risk identification, assessment, documentation and approvals meet bank policy, regulatory expectations and enterprise risk standards. Note that the Risk Utility Checker does not own the contract risk or the business decision to engage a third party.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

•    Support the execution of the bank’s TPRM strategy by embedding a consistent, risk-based checking approach across all third party categories
•    Work closely with the TPRM Process Governance and Risk Support team to contribute to the evolution of the TPRM risk utility operating model, including standardisation, scalability and automation opportunities
•    Provide data-driven insights on systemic risk and control weaknesses to inform TPRM strategic priorities and investment decisions

Business

•    Enable businesses and functions to engage third parties safely, efficiently, and in line with the risk appetite
•    Act as a trusted risk partner to 1LOD business owners by providing timely, constructive challenge and clear guidance

Processes

•    Execute standardised risk assessment checks across the contract lifecycle, through applying TPRM GPO and RFO-aligned checklists, consistently across regions and business units
•    Identify process inefficiencies, recurring issues, and control gaps in the risk assessment process
•    Support continuous improvement of TPRM workflows, templates and tooling in collaboration with process owners / RFOs

Risk Management

•    Perform independent quality checks on risk and control assessments, including risk artefacts and mitigation plans
•    Provide effective risk challenge where risk assessments are incomplete, inconsistent, or not aligned with policy or risk appetite
•    Escalate to the appropriate Risk Group SMEs / RFOs in cases where they exceed the pre-agreed guidelines or risk thresholds

People and Talent 

•    Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate, resolve any risk, conduct and compliance matters
•    Provide feedback and informal coaching to Contract Owners to uplift risk capability and assessment quality over time
•    Support knowledge sharing and capability building within TPRM CoE and across the wider organisation

Governance 

•    Ensure third party risk assessments comply with TPRM policies, standards and governance requirements
•    Support governance forums and committees with quality insights, escalation summaries and trend analysis
•    Monitor adherence to defined service levels, escalation thresholds and decision authorities within the TPRM framework
