Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Manager for Test Engineering with a focus on performance testing within our dynamic technology environment in Chennai. In this role, you will hold full accountability for the entire performance testing phase and be instrumental in shaping and advancing our performance test management strategy to ensure we meet and exceed quality standards for all IT project deliverables.

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in performance testing methodologies, infrastructure testing, and quality assurance principles. You will apply your knowledge to profile and engineer software applications to optimize system performance, working across a defined portfolio of projects that includes both active and upcoming initiatives secured under the strategic programme Vision. This role requires a forward-thinking mindset, balancing tactical execution with strategic planning to align performance testing capabilities with the organisation's future goals.

This position also calls for proactive leadership in quality control processes and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable, and high-performing IT solutions that support Standard Chartered's commitment to excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Manager, you will be expected to manage and execute a broad range of responsibilities to maximise the quality and efficiency of performance testing across multiple projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing comprehensive and detailed performance test scenario plans that accurately reflect business and technical requirements.
  • Conducting hands-on performance testing using advanced tools such as LoadRunner and JMeter, with the flexibility to explore other modern protocols and testing instruments that enhance effectiveness.
  • Leading clear and effective communication channels with stakeholders, ensuring transparency around project status, risks, and outcomes.
  • Assisting in the development and refinement of test documentation including Test Plans, Closure Reports, and Quality Gate Checklists.
  • Reviewing all test artefacts rigorously, ensuring test cases, traceability matrices, and test coverage meet organisational standards and project needs.
  • Proactively identifying performance challenges, bottlenecks, and risks, then formulating mitigation strategies and solutions to address them.
  • Maintaining expertise in defect management processes to ensure timely resolution and tracking of issues impacting performance and stability.
  • Leveraging domain and technical knowledge to create impactful performance test designs that represent real-world user behaviour and system performance conditions.
  • Analyzing system metrics such as CPU and memory utilisation, response times, throughput, and error rates to provide actionable insights and continuous improvement recommendations.
  • Championing quality enhancement initiatives focused on boosting productivity, enhancing test accuracy, and streamlining process adherence within the testing lifecycle.

Business
Test Delivery
•    Identify and analyse issues in requirements, design specifications, application architecture as well as product documentation.
•    Develop test specifications based on various requirement documents within schedule constraints.
•    Develop test bed and/or test data and verify test environments (based on project requirements). 
•    Perform non-functional test execution activities (performance testing, where applicable) as per project engagement. 
•    Constant communication and follow up with various stakeholders during test planning and execution phases.
•    Report and update test status promptly and accurately.
•    Enable project meetings to provide feedback and statistics of the project in relation to the test quality.
•    Able to contribute to multiple projects, whilst still ensuring process compliance and deliverables are adhere to.
•    Able to work independently as well as a team in providing out-of-the box solution if required. 
•    To collaborate/troubleshoot with the development and delivery team for technical issues that requires result analysis and feedback.

Processes
•    Good understanding and able to apply test processes laid down within the test team, and/or standards as defined by project and SCB.
•    Ability to work in a highly compliant landscape and work within the boundaries of globally defined software quality management practices and policies 
•    Understand that traceability and reporting are extremely important in highly compliant environments and be prepared to engrain these practices in team’s ways of working

Qualifications

Successful candidates will hold a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.

Applicants should demonstrate extensive practical experience in performance testing and quality assurance, ideally accumulated over 10+ years within complex IT environments. Prior leadership experience managing test teams and delivering performance testing services within large-scale programmes is essential.

Professional certifications such as ISTQB Advanced Level, Certified Software Test Manager or equivalent credentials in test management or quality assurance will be highly regarded.

Experience within the banking sector or financial services technology companies, with an understanding of regulatory constraints and operational risk factors, will be a distinct advantage.

Superior communication skills, coupled with a track record of collaborating effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders, are critical to thrive in this role.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise and proficiency in the following areas and tools:

  • Over 10 years of hands-on and leadership experience in performance testing across diverse technology stacks.
  • Advanced skill in LoadRunner for simulating realistic user workloads and conducting stress tests on complex applications.
  • Proficient with Apache JMeter for open-source performance assessment, capable of managing tests across multiple protocols including HTTP, FTP, and JDBC.
  • Experience with Selenium for integrating automated functional testing within performance test suites to ensure integrity under load.

In addition to technical prowess, the role requires exemplary analytical reasoning, systematic problem-solving, and clear stakeholder communication. You will be expected to bridge gaps between business objectives and technical implementation effectively.
