Job Summary

The Branch Manager position at Standard Chartered in Chittagong represents a critical leadership role dedicated to positioning the branch as a premier retail sales and service outlet. The role focuses on delivering exceptional client service to increase the client base and successfully achieve asset and liability targets within the Premium Clients segment. This position calls for collaboration with the Branch Manager and Branch Operations Sales Manager to ensure full compliance with both Group and local regulatory requirements throughout branch operations.

The Branch Manager is entrusted with directing financial and sales performance by building assets and liabilities, capitalizing on cross-selling opportunities, and effectively communicating with customers to explore sales prospects. Organizing and supporting sales promotions such as presentations, seminars, and exhibitions in coordination with other sales channels will be key activities.

Beyond sales, the Branch Manager fosters a client-centric culture emphasizing high-quality service delivery across all customer segments, meeting pre-established service standards. Ensuring motivated and well-trained staff through open communication, ongoing training, career planning, and professional performance management also falls within this remit.

Operational risk and administrative responsibilities include maintaining a strong compliance culture aligned with the Operational Risk Framework, coordinating audits, and ensuring timely and accurate risk reporting while adhering to all operational policies and regulatory mandates.

Key Responsibilities

The Branch Manager's key responsibilities encompass comprehensive oversight of branch operations to safeguard security, compliance, and service excellence. 

Ensuring branch transactions meet processing standards with robust cash management forms an essential part of the role, alongside guaranteeing strict adherence to Group and local regulations including Anti-Money Laundering laws, sanctions compliance, Customer Due Diligence, and the Code of Conduct. The Branch Manager takes ownership of maintaining auditable records to support favorable audit outcomes.

The role also requires oversight of locker and student file services as per approved processes and acting as a liaison for AML-related activities including self-assessments and suspicious activity reporting consistent with regulatory directives. Accurate regulatory reporting and acting as a Bangladesh Bank signatory as empowered ensure compliance with financial governance.

Health and safety management within the branch is another critical area, requiring the Branch Manager to oversee training, reporting, and issue resolution related to workplace wellbeing in coordination with the Country Health & Safety Manager, fostering an environment where staff feel safe and supported.

Skills and Experience

A solid proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential for this role, as the Branch Manager will be required to manage reporting, presentations, and communication effectively. Additionally, the role demands strong leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and manage branch staff effectively.

Experience in banking operations, particularly in compliance, risk management, and branch administration, is valuable. The ability to analyse financial data and use it to guide sales strategies and operational decisions will contribute significantly to success.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills are critical for engaging clients, staff, and regulatory authorities, alongside a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement in service delivery and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a minimum Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Candidates with a strong academic background in finance, business administration, or related disciplines will be highly regarded.

Applicants should have between 5 to 7 years of banking experience, particularly with exposure to branch management, retail banking sales, compliance, and operational risk management. Demonstrable experience in leading teams and delivering on sales targets within a regulated financial environment is fundamental.

Additional professional certifications related to banking, compliance, or risk management would be considered advantageous, enhancing the candidate's capacity to navigate complex regulatory landscapes effectively.
