Job Summary
This role involves leading credit risk management functions within the bank to safeguard asset quality and ensure the business operates within prudent risk parameters. You will contribute strategically by providing insightful forecasts on costs and impairments while balancing external market conditions to inform robust business planning. Acting as a pivotal communicator, you will align the function’s objectives with the broader organisational ambitions, reinforce risk management capabilities, and supervise processes where the function holds first-line ownership. Leadership in coaching junior credit analysts fosters a strong talent pipeline, and you will champion the independence and integrity of the credit risk function to maintain sound risk-return decision-making aligned with the bank's ethical standards and regulatory expectations.
Collaboration across departments will be critical to continuously enhance operational efficiencies and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. You will be expected to lead by example, embedding a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within the credit risk framework. Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment and Approval: Ensure all Group Mandates, Business Credit Applications, and credit submissions meet the highest standards of completeness and depth of risk analysis, approving exceptions where appropriate according to CIB Credit Policy.
- Portfolio Standards Development: Formulate and implement Portfolio Standards that align with and support strategic business goals while maintaining robust credit risk controls.
- Credit Risk Monitoring: Lead timely identification and escalation of credit-related risks to senior leadership, contributing to portfolio reviews, risk data accuracy, and adherence to Early Alert Review processes.
- Operational Risk Management: Oversee compliance with operational risk frameworks, applying risk assessment tools such as KRIs, KCSs, and self-assessments, and manage reporting requirements diligently.
- Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis: Initiate or support execution of stress tests evaluating risk exposures under varying conditions and interpret results to provide actionable insights.
- Risk-Control Culture: Maintain the integrity of risk-return decisions by ensuring that business units substantiate risk origination choices consistently with the strategic objectives.
- Incident Response: Direct appropriate responses to material risk events, ensuring swift and effective resolution while minimizing potential losses.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external regulators, and rating agencies to foster transparency and compliance with evolving regulatory standards.
Skills and Experience
- Proven expertise in Credit Risk Management, including assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of credit risks within corporate and commercial banking sectors.
- Sound understanding and application of Operational Risk Management practices, including risk identification, control assessment, and implementation of effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong analytical abilities to evaluate complex financial data and market conditions that impact risk profiles.
- Demonstrated capacity in policy formulation and enforcing adherence to credit and operational risk frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with senior management, business stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to drive risk management strategies.
- Competence in stress-testing methodologies and scenario planning to anticipate potential risk exposures and plan mitigation actions.
- Proactive approach to talent development by mentoring and guiding junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Qualifications
Education and Professional Background:
- Extensive experience within the banking industry, with a proven record of success in credit risk management or closely related roles focusing on corporate and commercial clients.
- In-depth knowledge of business strategy and models, supported by strong leadership skills and the ability to engage in multi-cultural environments with sensitivity and effectiveness.
- Expertise in risk management and internal controls, with a track record of designing and implementing effective processes to mitigate diverse risks across a broad product portfolio.
- Comprehensive understanding of the regulatory environment applicable to the banking sector and the specific compliance requirements related to credit risk management.
- Excellent relationship management capabilities, with experience engaging external stakeholders such as regulators and rating agencies.
Languages: Proficiency in English is essential to communicate effectively within the organization and with external partners.
Banking Training:
- Mandatory role-specific training, including risk management frameworks and core credit curriculum.
- Other ongoing training and development programs as required by the bank to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge.
