Job Summary

As the Director & Head of Trade Business Risk Management based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring all trade operations within the country adhere strictly to both local and group-wide policies, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards. You will be accountable for embedding a strong culture of risk awareness and operational compliance within the Trade Operations teams, overseeing risk management frameworks, and driving strategic initiatives aligned with the Group Risk Management Framework (RMF). Your role will involve implementing and enhancing trade operations controls, liaising actively with key country and regional stakeholders including Legal, Compliance, and Operational Risk, to ensure seamless and compliant business practices. The position demands a proactive approach in identifying emerging regulatory changes and leading initiatives to drive continuous improvement in operations risk management and governance. A key part of your responsibility will include supporting the Heads of Risk & Compliance (HRC) to foster an environment where risks are effectively managed and controlled to maintain the integrity, reputation, and sustainability of trade operations.

Strategic Leadership and Oversight
Lead the development and execution of operational risk strategies specific to trade operations, ensuring that business priorities align with regulatory expectations and Group risk appetite. Collaborate closely with regional and global teams to drive operational excellence and risk control automation, embedding preventive management practices to reduce operational losses and enhance business resiliency.

Operational Excellence and Compliance
Champion the design and ongoing review of trade operations controls, ensuring that all activities conform with regulatory guidelines and internal policies. Spearhead root cause analyses of operational incidents, facilitating timely and effective remediation plans to mitigate future risk exposure. Oversee the accurate booking and reconciliation of operational losses, ensure robust incident management protocols, and contribute to the continuous refinement of workflows leveraging technology enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Talent Development
Drive a culture of high performance and operational risk accountability within the Trade Operations teams by imparting clear risk management policies and fostering continuous learning. Design and deploy comprehensive training and development programs tailored to cultivate risk awareness and ethical compliance among technology and operations staff at all levels. Ensure that all team members understand their roles and responsibilities within the risk governance framework, and are equipped to act accordingly.

Risk Assurance and Control
Implement rigorous Process Risk Analysis methodologies to identify potential operational vulnerabilities and establish key controls, control indicators, and risk metrics. Conduct periodic peer reviews and collaborate with subject matter experts to maintain an 'ever audit ready' environment. Champion risk acceptance assessments and develop pragmatic treatment plans where necessary, ensuring ongoing monitoring and escalation as appropriate.

Incident and Operational Loss Management
Lead structured root cause investigations on significant operational events, establishing corrective actions and ensuring that lessons learned are integrated into processes and systems improvements. Oversee the approval and accurate accounting of operational losses consistent with delegated authorities and accounting standards. Collaborate closely with finance teams to conduct reconciliations ensuring transparency and compliance.

Skills and Experience

Core Competencies and Experience
Proven ability to lead and manage operational conduct and compliance, with a strong focus on risk mitigation and governance. Experience in driving change management initiatives within complex operational environments and collaborating effectively with multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated expertise in service delivery and business partnering, with a thorough understanding of trade products, processes, and regulatory landscapes.

Excellent leadership qualities to manage and develop diverse teams, fostering a culture centered on ethics, accountability, and continuous improvement. Strong analytical skills coupled with operational problem-solving capabilities are essential to identify risks, design controls, and streamline processes to improve efficiency and compliance.

Competent in overseeing business governance frameworks and supporting strategic decision-making with sound operational insights. Adept at managing technological tools supporting trade operations, facilitating workflow automation, and enhancing control environments.

Qualifications

Educational and Professional Qualifications
A university degree or higher qualification is required, preferably in fields such as Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related disciplines. Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years' experience in trade operations, with substantial exposure to risk and compliance or operational risk management within the banking or financial services sectors.

Technical Skills
In-depth knowledge of trade finance products and the associated regulatory requirements. Strong command of operational risk concepts, control design, and testing methodologies. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite and risk management software platforms is essential.

Interpersonal and Soft Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse teams and senior stakeholders. Proven ability to motivate and coach teams, manage multiple priorities, and perform under pressure. A self-driven and proactive individual with strong organisational capabilities and business acumen.

Additional Preferences
Demonstrated passion for continuous operational improvement and innovation. Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities and adapt to evolving business needs as assigned by leadership.
