Job Summary
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Credit Officer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to act as the second line Risk Control Owner for credit risk and related prudential regulations. This pivotal role is responsible for establishing the risk-type framework, setting risk tolerances and appetites, and maintaining policies and control standards to mitigate credit risk effectively.
As the senior credit officer, you will operate within delegated authorities to make timely and informed risk decisions, uphold regulatory compliance, and ensure the design and operational effectiveness of risk controls. You will also lead initiatives to monitor adherence to Board-approved risk tolerances, escalate significant exceptions promptly, and foster a strong culture of good conduct within the organisation.
In this capacity, you will have accountability for final credit decisions on wholesale lending portfolios, collaborating closely with business units to ensure accurate credit applications and robust credit risk measurement. While business CEOs retain responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of credit submissions, you will serve as a key adjudicator in the credit risk function.

Principal Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to the formulation of business plans by providing accurate cost and impairment forecasts alongside a comprehensive analysis of the external macroeconomic and regulatory landscape.
- Assist in shaping the medium to long-term credit risk strategy to align with the bank's overall objectives and risk appetite.
Business Leadership
- Communicate a clear and compelling strategic direction for the credit risk function across all relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and enhance the function's risk management capabilities and skillsets to respond to emerging challenges and evolving business needs.
Process Oversight
- Supervise and optimize all processes for which the credit risk function holds primary ownership, ensuring alignment with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
- Implement robust operational risk controls within the function to safeguard against potential lapses, ensuring continuous compliance with applicable policies, laws, and prudential standards.
- Drive ongoing improvements in operational effectiveness and efficiency across risk management practices, leveraging technology and best practices where appropriate.
People and Talent Management
- Identify, attract, and nurture high-potential talent in credit risk across International Corporates, Local Corporates, and Global Subsidiaries.
- Define clear job roles, set measurable objectives, and provide structured feedback and development opportunities aligned with individual and team performance.
- Champion the independence of the risk function, upholding professional ethics and ensuring decisions prioritize prudent risk-taking over short-term profits.
- Model exemplary leadership by embedding a culture of integrity, accountability, and shared values within the team and across the broader organisation.
Risk Management
• Ensuring that the quality of Business Credit Applications (BCAs) meets Group standards, particularly with regards to the completeness and depth of risk analysis.
• Approving breaches of Local Portfolio Standards, to the extent permitted by Credit Policy.
• Formulating and obtaining approval of Portfolio Standards which is supportive (from credit risk perspective) of the business strategy of various segments.
• Ensuring Risk Committee meets on a regular basis to review credit related issues in compliance with Group Policy governing such matters and actively participating on that Committee
• Ensuring timely submission and accuracy of International Corporates, Local Corporates and Global Subsidiaries, Bangladesh credit portfolio data to the Risk Committee.
• Monitoring compliance with credit policy and Portfolio Standards on monthly basis at least and reviewing any divergence thereof with the CEO, Client Coverage (CC) Head/Segment Heads to ensure credit quality targets are achieved.
• Ensure compliance to the Operational Risk framework including the effective application of risk toolkit (self-assessments, KRIs, KCSs, etc) and reporting.
• Initiate stress tests as required by internal and external factors and review results and assess their implications
• Uphold the integrity of risk/return decisions, by challenging business to demonstrate that risk origination and control decisions are properly informed and consistent with strategy
• Direct appropriate response to material events or other risk issues that come to the SCO's attention
• Exercise risk control responsibility for Credit Risk, CCIB
• Ensure that material risk exposures and related issues are reported to the responsible governance committees and to Group and business-level committees as appropriate
• Ensure appropriate judgement is applied in the discharge of risk authorities assigned to the jobholder
• Maintain a good understanding of the requirements of key external stakeholders in respect of risk management and ensure these are well understood internally and reflected in internal procedures
• Maintain delegated authorities in line with internal policies and ensure that delegations are in line with individual capabilities.
• Actively participate in key committees through standing membership
• Ensure first line process owners understand and accept their risk management responsibilities
• Maintain an open and cooperative relationship in dealings with regulators (if applicable)
• Co-ordinating local resources to ensure that credit systems are installed in accordance with Group standard. Provide a reference point for collating and passing on to Group Technology and Operations problems and proposed enhancements. Ensure that new users are trained on all credit systems.
• Increasing working profits through effective management of the loan asset portfolio in order to help develop the franchise in a sustainable way and minimise provisions.
• Maximizing Economic Revenue through effective management of the risk/reward relationships.
• Maintaining credit quality and standards of professionalism for the risk function.
• Ensure effective implementation of Group Policies / Circulars / Procedures.
• Actively participate in monthly Regional Credit Issues Forum (RCIF)
• Undertake regular customer visits to better understand the business environment

Qualifications
• Minimum bachelors' degree in Accounting / Finance or other relevant area with senior level banking experience which should include a minimum of 10 years experience in corporate and institutional banking
• Business experience should also include senior level front office experience to assess risk and appropriate levels of return, strong leadership qualities, excellent inter personal skills and multi-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
• Risk Management and control: demonstrated track record in successful management and ability to manage risk in geographically dispersed and highly varied product base. Expertise in process design and control.
• Training: Corporate Credit Risk Management Certification (CCRMC) and risks in complex transactions and all bank-wide regulatory / compliance training applicable to credit officers.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in English and Bangla
