Job Summary
The Director, WRB Lending Fraud Risk Strategy is a permanent role that requires strong business acumen and deep knowledge and experience in the managing lending fraud risk strategy and tools. The role alaso requires understanding of WRB Credit products, tools and related client life cycle, along with understanding of fraud risk analytics and strategy. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of operating in a FIRST line capacity within Lending risk transformation domain and can respond flexibly and collaboratively to evolving fraud threat landscape. Candidate to have proven experience (15+ years) in Program management in collaboration with technology team to implement Lending risk/ Fraud Risk management capabilities. This is an individual contributor role and will also be responsible for facilitating the fraud risk forum and committee meetings, to ensure that there is consistent engagement and connectivity across all functions and CFCC stakeholders, to enable lending external fraud risk management team and its stakeholders to manage external fraud risk in a robust and effective manner.
KEY SKILLS
• Proven leadership in fraud risk strategy across SME/ WRB lending portfolios.
• Advanced understanding of Lending fraud risk typologies, lending products and associated control frameworks (Process and Technology).
• Knowledge of fraud detection technologies, case management systems, analytics platforms and data driven decisioning to manage Lending external fraud risk.
• Strong knowledge of WRB lending products, originations, portfolio management and associated fraud risk exposures.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence senior forums and committees.
• Demonstrated ability to design and oversee fraud risk strategy, policies, governance frameworks and management information at country / regional / group level.
• High ethical standards, integrity and sound judgement in handling sensitive information and managing conflicts.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
• Design and drive the WRB Lending Fraud Risk strategy, aligned with Group Fraud Risk, WRB strategy and overall risk appetite.
• Anticipate and assess emerging fraud trends in WRB lending and translate these into strategic priorities, controls and investment cases.
• Set the vision and direction for fraud playbooks, investigation frameworks, control standards and best practices across WRB lending.
• Provide strategic direction on the design, selection and deployment of fraud risk management infrastructure (tools, models, decision engines and analytics) for WRB channels and products.
• Challenge and enhance the effectiveness of fraud risk tools, policies and controls, championing innovative and data driven solutions.
• Represent WRB Lending Fraud Risk Strategy function in key risk committees and forums, providing expert input on fraud strategy and portfolio impacts.
• Support the fraud risk strategy by identifying emerging fraud trends and providing insights for risk mitigation.
• Provide feedback on effectiveness of fraud risk tools and suggest improvements or new solutions
• Implement the Fraud Risk management infrastructure (tools and technology) for channels and products within WRB.
• Manage fraud risk, assisting businesses with implementing the 'best in class' tools & processes to minimize fraud losses while maintaining and adhering to customer charter goals and objectives.
• Partner with risk management teams to align investigations with broader fraud strategies.
Business
• Provide strategic oversight of complex and systemic fraud cases in WRB lending, digital and partnership channels, ensuring robust investigation, remediation and lessons learned.
• Escalate material fraud events and themes to senior management with clear impact analysis and recommended actions.
• Set and maintain WRB fraud risk policy, standards and minimum control requirements for lending products and channels, ensuring alignment with Group FRM policies.
• Define the overarching framework for application fraud detection in lending, ensuring comprehensive coverage of existing and emerging risks.
• Act as senior subject matter expert to WRB and country stakeholders on fraud typologies, control design and risk reward trade-offs.
• Lead the development of a proactive, independent and risk aware fraud culture across WRB, embedding fraud risk considerations into business decisions and product design.
• Oversee the design and effectiveness of processes and controls managing lending external fraud risk across all WRB products, channels and markets within scope.
• Benchmark WRB Lending Fraud Risk Strategy against industry best practice and drive adoption of leading capabilities and methodologies.
• Sponsor and guide fraud awareness programmes for frontline, credit, operations, and product teams, ensuring consistent and targeted content.
Processes
• Define minimum documentation and audit trail expectations for fraud investigations, ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal governance requirements.
• Oversee use of fraud detection and case management platforms, setting expectations for monitoring coverage, escalation thresholds and reporting.
• Drive systematic root cause analysis of fraud incidents and thematic events, ensuring that findings are translated into sustainable control enhancements.
• Ensure governance over timely closure of cases, accurate classification and reporting of fraud losses, recoveries and near misses.
• Lead standardisation, automation and process re-engineering initiatives across WRB Lending Fraud Risk Management to improve efficiency and control.
• Define and oversee Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) in consultation with 2LOD for lending fraud risk, ensuring they support management information and strategy testing.
• Build strong cross functional collaboration with business, operations, technology, legal, compliance and risk partners to deliver end to end fraud risk outcomes.
• Own the fraud detection strategy roadmap for WRB lending.
• Ensure full compliance with Change Risk Management and model governance requirements when implementing fraud related system or rule changes.
• Provide strategic oversight for training on application fraud detection tools (e.g. AFD) for country and group teams, ensuring capability is embedded and maintained.
• Design and approve global standard application verification approaches for both pre booking and post booking scenarios for WRB lending.
• Ensure “lessons learned” from incidents, audits and thematic reviews are captured, communicated and implemented across relevant SCB markets in a timely manner.
People & Talent
• Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values within the Fraud Risk Management team. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
Risk Management
• Ensure WRB Lending Fraud Risk strategy is fully aligned with Group Enterprise Risk Management and Fraud Risk Management frameworks.
• Regularly review and challenge fraud risk exposures against agreed risk appetite and tolerance levels, escalating where necessary.
• Ensure that all country and WRB FRM policies, standards and procedures are up to date, consistent with Group requirements and effectively implemented.
• Oversee end to end fraud risk prevention and detection across the lending lifecycle (origination, onboarding, disbursement and post booking monitoring).
• Seek and use assurance from 1st and 2nd line functions to validate that control design and operating effectiveness remain adequate.
• Ensure robust management response plans are in place for extreme but plausible fraud scenarios, including playbooks and crisis communication protocols.
• Recommend and drive changes to business processes, product designs, or control environments where necessary to keep fraud risk within appetite.
• Balance business growth, customer experience and cost with fraud risk and control requirements, ensuring decisions do not materially threaten the Group’s risk profile.
Governance
• Provide oversight across WRB Risk Operations team, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and compliance practices as defined by internal and external requirements.
• Embed the Group’s values and code of conduct in Wealth and Retail Banking Operations to ensure that adherence with the highest standards of ethics, and compliance with relevant policies, processes and regulations among employees’ form part of the culture.
• Accountable for satisfactory closure of issues / gaps arising from Internal Audits, peer reviews and regulatory reviews for the countries in the Region.

Skills and Experience
• Good understanding and working experience on Credit risk and fraud risk management
• Good Knowledge of Client KYC, CDD and verification process
• Sound Knowledge of Client onboarding, maintenance, and credit underwriting processes
• Business Strategy and Model: Strong understanding of WRB client segments
• Good understanding of country fraud risk landscape (Loss events, Bureau checks, Local verification tools/ applications).
• Hands on experience on application fraud risk screening & surveillance applications/ tools is must along with alert review and investigation process.
• Knowledge of applicable Country regulatory and compliance guidelines (driven by Country central bank and other state authorities) relevant to mitigation and management of external fraud risk
Qualifications
Education and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Forensic Accounting, or related discipline. CA/ CS/ CA inter
• 12+ years of experience in fraud risk investigation, preferably within banking, fintech, or financial services.
• Experience in handling SME-related investigations will be an advantage.
• Familiarity with fraud risk management tools
Certifications
• CFE, CFCS, ACAMS etc.,
