Job Summary

SME Banking (“SME”) within Standard Chartered Bank aims to provide companies with turnover of up to US$50mio in Singapore a suite of product that meets their Cash management and financing requirements.

The Director of Strategic Engagements supports SME Banking growth by identifying, managing, and expanding partnership ecosystems, as well as planning and executing events to acquire clients, deepen engagement, and strengthen brand positioning within the SME community. The role drives collaboration with industry associations, chambers of commerce, government agencies, and corporate alliances. 

Key Responsibilities

A.    Partnership Strategy & Management

•    Develop and execute partnership strategies to drive SME acquisition, engagement, and revenue.
o    Identify potential ecosystem partners:
o    government agencies (Enterprise SG, EDB, MIDA, etc)
o    industry associations (SCCCI, SICC, SICCI, SBF, etc)
o    chambers of commerce (China, India, ASEAN)
o    Corporate Service Providers and SME solution providers (accounting, HR, ERP, e-commerce).
•    Negotiate partnership agreements, collaboration frameworks, and joint marketing initiatives.
•    Evaluate performance of strategic partnerships using metrics such as leads, conversion rate, and portfolio impact.
•    Maintain strong partner relationships through regular reviews, joint planning sessions, and cross-promotions.

B.    Event Planning, Management & Execution

•    Lead end-to-end planning of SME banking events:
o    industry seminars
o    FDI/business corridor forums
o    product launches
o    educational workshops (FX, trade, digital platforms)
o    customer appreciation / networking events
o    co-branded partner events
•    Plan event roadmap aligned with SME banking strategy (acquisition, wallet share, branding).
•    Manage event logistics: venue, registration, vendor coordination, budgeting, branding, and compliance approvals.
•    Deliver high-quality customer experiences and ensure events reflect the bank’s brand and values.
•    Collaborate with product, marketing, RMs, and digital channels to drive attendance and leads.

C.    Marketing and Campaign Support

•    Work with Marketing to drive integrated campaigns with partners (social media, EDMs, PR, press releases).
•    Ensure messaging aligns with SME propositions (working capital, trade, treasury, digital platforms, employee banking).
•    Track ROI of partnership campaigns and event activities.
•    Create presentation materials, partnership decks, event reports, and post-event analyses.

D.    Stakeholder and Internal Collaboration

•    Collaborate with SME Sales team to translate partnerships and events into client acquisition opportunities.
•    Work with Product Owners (FX, trade, lending, cash, Network) to design co-branded content and thought leadership topics.
•    Coordinate with Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams for partner onboarding and event approvals.
•    Support senior management with strategy updates, dashboards, and partnership insights.

E.    Governance, Control and Conduct

•    Ensure all partnership and event activities comply with the necessary regulations, internal controls, and brand guidelines.
•    Maintain proper documentation, contracts, and audit trails for partnership engagements.
•    Uphold conduct standards around responsible marketing and fair dealing

Strategy
You must have, or be prepared to quickly demonstrate a set of soft skills like:
•    Business Development with strong commercial acumen.
•    Superb Networking ability
•    Strong Negotiation Skills
•    Client Relationship Management
•    Experiences in Corporate marketing or events management
•    Able to work independently and manage end-to-end deliverables.

Our Ideal Candidate
•    SME banking / Commercial Banking products and services loans such as trade finance, cash management, FX, digital platforms exprience
•    SME Eco-system stakeholders including Business Associations, Platform Aggregators, Business Service Providers etc 
•    Experience working in international corridors (China-Singapore, India-Singapore, ASEAN)

•    Strong presentation and deck-building skills (PowerPoint)
•    Familiarity with CRM tools, marketing automation, and campaign tracking.

•    C-suite stakeholders from SMEs and Partner Organisations.
•    Internal Stakeholders like Group and Country SME Banking Management Teams, Private Banking Teams, International Banking Teams, Priority Banking teams, Marketing and Communication Teams

Other Responsibilities
Embed Here for good and Group’s brand and values in  Wealth and Retail Banking; Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures; Multiple functions (double hats).

Qualifications

•    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Communications, Banking, or related fiel

Role Specific Technical Competencies

•    8 years experience in CRM tools, marketing automation, and campaign tracking.
•    MS Office Presentation Tools
