Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated, driven and solution-oriented individual to join our Compliance, Financial Crime & Conduct Risk (“CFCR”) Advisory team, sitting in and covering the largest trading floor in the Middle East. You will be advising our market-leading Sales, Trading and Structuring teams (and many others) and ensure the Bank complies with our regulatory obligations in some of the most dynamic markets in the Middle East, as well as extraterritorially. The asset classes you will be covering include and are not limited to foreign exchange, fixed income and commodities, as well as digital assets.
You will be joining a strong, diverse team advising on all risks falling under the CFCR remit, including market conduct, appropriateness, conflicts of interest, amongst many others, allowing you several growth opportunities in understanding the Markets business (part of our Corporate & Investment Banking division) as well as the wider CFCR function.
Key Responsibilities
• Supporting the Chief Compliance Officer, UAE (“CCO UAE”) and Head, CFCR Advisory, Markets AME in managing all regulatory, conduct, financial crime and compliance risks relating to the Markets business in UAE and Middle East.
• Responsible for providing details of developments giving rise to a material risk that serious regulatory breaches or breaches of risk tolerances (as agreed by the Board from time to time) may occur and notifying any such breaches to (as appropriate):
o Chief Compliance Officer, UAE
o Head, CFCR Advisory, Markets AME
o The relevant Heads of Business and stakeholders
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Markets business model and strategy to provide substantive oversight support and challenge in order to enable appropriate and sustainable CFCR outcomes.
• Provide CFCR related advice, analysis (and challenge when appropriate) in relation to the Markets businesses, including product design, new business initiatives, bespoke projects, remedial activities (including nature, scale, and rigour of past business reviews), and transactional advice.
• Support the resolution of competing requirements between regulations specific to Markets business (i.e. between AML regulations and data privacy/bank secrecy or information security regulations).
• In accordance with the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework, act as 2nd Line Risk Owner for appropriate and relevant Markets processes and exercise oversight and challenge.
• Collaborate with the UAE and ME Country CFCR teams and Regional CFCR Advisory teams to anticipate horizon risks that may have a significant impact on the Bank and develop effective strategies to mitigate such horizon risks.
• In the event of serious Markets related regulatory breaches, or where CFCR related risk tolerances have been breached, ensure senior management and relevant regulators are informed and that actions are taken quickly to remediate and/or activities are ceased.
• Liaise with the internal audit function and Business Operational Risk Managers in Markets to ensure that any CFCR Advisory Markets weakness identified by the internal audit function relating to Markets activities are appropriately followed up.
• Attend relevant governance meetings and provide relevant reports to senior management and governance/risk committees when delegated by the Chief Compliance Officer, UAE or Head, CFCR Advisory Markets, AME.
• Assist in the identification and escalation of potential CFCR Advisory Markets related risks and issues to senior management through appropriate governance channels and the Quality Assurance framework.
• Propose control effectiveness and efficiency improvements and simplifications where appropriate.
Skills and Experience
• Minimum of 3 years of banking experience, particularly in Compliance or in Financial Markets/Treasury teams.
• Good understanding of products within the Markets space is preferred, particularly including foreign exchange, fixed income and commodities.
• Excellent communication skills is a must, and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Qualifications
• University graduate
• Excellent communication skills in English is a prerequisite, and fluency in Arabic is an added advantage
