Job Description: 

Job Summary

The successful candidate will support the Markets Business Heads in executing Markets Africa strategy, implementing business initiatives, helping ensure adherence to regulations and policies and provide risk & governance related support.

Key Responsibilities

Business:
•    Execute the global Markets business strategy locally.
•    Keep up to date with local regulations to assess impact / business opportunities and manage any changes to business processes and infrastructure.
•    Provide business support on dealing room management, e.g., capacity planning, business continuity, access controls, Service Level Agreements, licensing, etc.
•    Driving and management of a prudent cost culture and seek opportunities to reduce costs.

Processes:
•    Be the “connector” between global and local and importing / exporting best practices from other Clusters.
•    Importing / exporting best practices intra Clusters
•    Continuously seek out process simplification and re-engineering opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

Risk Management:
•    Managing local non-financial risks, ie. risk identification, assessment, and mitigation through the design / implementation of fit for purpose controls
•    Manage regulatory risks and ensure compliance.
•    Supervising and coordinating in-country 2nd line reviews, audits and regulatory inspections.
•    For DIFC governance purposes, any actual or potential conduct, regulatory and/ or internal policy matters relating to DIFC based staff, or activities, must be escalated to the Head of Markets UAE (Inc DIFC) for consideration and action if needed.

Supervision:
•    Support the Markets Head to operate effective supervision of Markets and oversight of Treasury Markets and Wealth Management Product Sales (CMPS) staff in the dealing room, where applicable.
•    Ensure dealing room staff adhere to internal and external processes and procedures.

Governance:
•    Support the in-country Market head in running any risk and supervision committees and forums as required by Markets, Country and Regulators.
•    Monitor, report and escalate risks to local risk committees where appropriate in line with local governance.
•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct across the Bank, including understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.

People & Talent
•    Lead and build a high-performing in-country Markets COO team.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

•    Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.
