Job Summary
As Director, Stressed Assets Group, you will support the Regional Head of Credit Portfolio Management (CPM) and Regional/Area Head of SAG in developing and executing portfolio strategies for stressed and potentially stressed exposures across the Middle East region.
You will lead the proactive management of non-performing and classified assets, contribute to early-stage risk identification, and drive mitigation strategies that enhance returns, reduce portfolio volatility, optimize regulatory capital, and improve overall balance sheet efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio & Risk Management
- Manage and monitor stressed and deteriorating credit exposures across the Middle East portfolio.
- Drive recovery strategies and workout plans for non-performing loans and problem accounts.
- Partner with Relationship Managers and Risk teams to identify emerging risks and implement timely mitigation actions.
- Support the management of CG12, CG13 and CG14 exposures through restructuring, deleveraging, secondary distribution, hedging, and other risk reduction initiatives.
- Provide guidance on credit grading, provisioning, and portfolio management actions.
Capital & Balance Sheet Optimization
- Maximize recoveries while improving capital efficiency and overall returns.
- Support optimization of Risk Weighted Assets (RWA), liquidity, and Return on Tangible Equity (RoTE).
- Assess strategic options for stressed assets, balancing accounting outcomes against economic value.
- Contribute to reducing concentration risk and releasing regulatory capital to support business growth.
Strategic Portfolio Insights
- Deliver portfolio analytics and forward-looking credit migration assessments.
- Enhance portfolio transparency through meaningful reporting on risk, cost, recovery, and mitigation outcomes.
- Support the development of data-driven approaches to credit risk management and portfolio optimization.
- Identify opportunities to improve portfolio composition and strengthen origination discipline.
Governance & Control
- Ensure compliance with the Bank's Problem Accounts Management Standards and relevant governance frameworks.
- Maintain strong oversight of operational, conduct, regulatory, and reputational risks.
- Escalate significant issues and material impairments to senior management and governance committees as required.
- Support audit, compliance, and regulatory reviews while ensuring timely resolution of findings.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong partnerships across Coverage, Credit Risk, SAR, Finance, Legal, CFCC, Global Credit Markets, and Financial Markets teams.
- Represent the Bank in discussions with external stakeholders including investors, advisers, legal counsel, regulators, restructuring specialists, and distressed asset funds.
- Influence strategic decision-making through clear communication of portfolio risks and opportunities.
