Job Description: 

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and strategic ESG leader to drive the first line of defence ESG delivery for SCB AG. This role will lead the development and execution of the sustainability strategy across the institution, ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance, and integration of ESG principles across business strategy, risk management, product governance, and operations.

As a senior ESG subject-matter expert, you will act as a key advisor to senior management and a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, while partnering closely with Group and second-line functions.

Key Responsibilities

ESG Strategy and Implementation
•    Creation and ownership of an SCB AG ESG Strategy and related documents, including the ESG Risk Plan (first draft March 2026)
•    Co-ordination with owners of SCB AG Business Strategy, Risk Strategy, and other strategies as required
•    Responsibility for defining and maintaining ESG targets and KPIs including emissions targets (financed and operational), diversity & inclusion, and all other ESG areas relating to client and own activities
•    Co-ordination and monitoring of the implementation of ESG-related strategies, plans and targets, and liaising with all business and function stakeholders as required
•    Ensuring alignment with SCB Group strategy

 

ESG Monitoring and Reporting
•    Reporting to the SCB AG Management Board of targets and KPIs as required (e.g. emissions, water, waste, D&I etc)



Supporting and providing input to the European Coverage BPM as part of annual review processes
•    Provide input / insight for the annual target setting process for European ESG client business
•    Support the European Coverage BPM team to formulate responses to ESG related requests
•    Design and ownership of ESG-related processes and service level agreements (including Sustainable Finance SLA) and required monitoring, risk assessments and controls / mitigation etc

 

Audits and Supervisory Engagement
•    Acting as the central point of contact for ESG-related internal and external audits and broader supervisory engagement. This includes acting as the main point
     of contact for internal audit, external auditors, external auditor engagement team and supervisory engagement team (as appropriate) for ESG-related matters
•    Support in collecting and providing required information
•    Prepare responses
•    Lead or co-ordinate (as appropriate) the remediation of audit findings
•    Co-ordinate regulatory responses

Skills and Experience

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance – criteria used to assess sustainability and ethical impact of a company) strategy development and implementation
  • Solid understanding of ESG risk management and sustainable finance frameworks
  • Experience with product governance (framework ensuring financial products meet regulatory and client standards)
  • Good knowledge of EU and/or German regulatory environment, particularly ESG-related regulations

Professional Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior ESG, sustainability, risk, or governance role within banking or financial services
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple stakeholders, including senior leadership and regulators
  • Experience in leading strategy implementation and driving cross-functional initiatives
