Job Summary
As an Officer in Banking Operations based in Ebene, Mauritius, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless supervision and execution of day-to-day banking operations. You will act as a critical liaison between various operational teams across countries and hubs to uphold the highest standards in process efficiency, client service, and risk management. Your role will involve closely aligning transactional activities with the broader business and risk strategy, guaranteeing timely processing, and minimizing client-initiated errors.
You will proactively monitor transaction workflows, escalate and resolve issues collaboratively with Relationship Teams, and provide insightful data analytics to support service improvement initiatives. Educating clients to reduce common errors and maintaining an unwavering focus on quality and compliance form integral components of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will contribute to cross-functional knowledge sharing by cultivating operational versatility within your team.
This role demands strong ownership and the capacity to navigate complex operational challenges, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines and internal policies while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will also have the opportunity to participate in service reviews and joint client visits, enhancing client satisfaction and operational transparency.
Key Responsibilities
- Governance and Administration: Support the Head of Department and Chief Operations Officer (COO) with administrative functions, coordination of new initiatives, and project execution to enhance operational efficiency.
- Regulatory Compliance and Business Ethics: Exemplify integrity by adhering to and promoting the Group’s values and Code of Conduct within all facets of work. Take accountability for embedding regulatory compliance across the banking operations, ensuring adherence to all laws, guidelines, and best practices.
Lead collaborative efforts to proactively identify, mitigate, and resolve compliance and conduct risks, thereby contributing to the Bank’s commitment to fair client outcomes, effective financial markets, financial crime compliance, and ethical conduct. - Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong partnerships with Operations Team Members, Senior Leadership including COO, other Standard Chartered Bank departments, and Group offices to drive operational excellence and holistic business performance.
- Operational Support: Manage multi-functional responsibilities (‘double hats’) within Mauritius Cash Operations, embedding the Here for Good ethos and upholding the Group’s brand and values in all interactions.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated expertise in payment processing with a deep understanding of transaction lifecycle management, including error resolution and queue monitoring.
- Proficient in utilizing SWIFT messaging systems to facilitate secure and accurate financial communications across global banking networks.
- Experience with cash regulatory reporting procedures and maintaining compliance with jurisdiction-specific reporting requirements.
- Strong skills in cash query management, adept at investigating, diagnosing, and resolving discrepancies for seamless client experience.
- Customer-centric mindset with a proven ability to build trusted client relationships and deliver prompt, effective service.
- Highly developed analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify trends, and contribute to operational decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Excellent collaboration and communication abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the capability to perform root cause analyses and implement lessons learned for risk mitigation.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Degree in Banking, Finance, or a related discipline providing a strong foundation in financial principles and practices.
- Additional certifications related to banking operations, compliance, or risk management would be advantageous.
- Relevant professional development or training in payment systems, financial regulations, or operations management is highly desirable.
- Continuous learning attitude with a commitment to upskilling and adapting in a rapidly evolving financial services environment.
