Job Summary
As a Trade Product Manager at Standard Chartered in Mauritius, you will play a crucial role in managing and advancing the Corporate Plan for Trade products at both country and regional levels. Your primary objectives will include optimising revenue, improving profitability, expanding market share, and driving growth. You will work closely with sales teams to ensure smooth product execution while upholding high quality standards and minimising risk exposure for both the Bank and its clients.
Your expertise in the Trade Finance market will be vital; you will analyse market size, share, customer segmentation, buyer behaviors, regulatory environments, and competitor activities to support strategic decision-making. You will lead comprehensive market research, providing valuable insights and projections to both country and group management. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing detailed financial metrics, such as profit and loss statements, balance sheet considerations, and key performance indicators, while coordinating budgets and forecasts to promote sustainable business results.
In this role, you will lead the identification and prioritization of product and channel opportunities to develop compelling customer value propositions that address market needs. This includes supporting activities such as product sales campaigns, RFP responses, complex customer implementations, and advising on customer preferential pricing, channel, or product migrations without taking the lead, and providing sales support as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Leadership:
- You will own the end-to-end delivery of objectives for Trade and Working Capital products within Mauritius, ensuring alignment with Standard Chartered's global strategic priorities. This entails monitoring financial and non-financial targets, future-proofing capabilities, and enhancing client access strategies—all whilst maintaining rigorous risk governance in partnership with the Country Product Head.
- Support the local sales team by joining client meetings to identify trade opportunities and explore new products or channels. This also involves organising product training sessions for the sales team and ensuring effective product support across channels.
Financial Oversight and Business Performance:
- As the accountable owner of the product profit and loss statement, you will develop pricing frameworks, oversee asset management, manage contingent liabilities, and control risk-weighted asset allocations related to Trade and Working Capital offerings. Regular collaboration with the Country Head of Trade and Working Capital, particularly in Asset and Liability Committees (ALCOs), will be vital to adapt pricing strategies in response to market dynamics.
- You will also lead the crafting and execution of investment business cases, operational models, and financial controls to ensure sustained and comprehensive business success.
Market Analysis and Competitive Positioning:
- Continual competitor analysis and market research will underpin your efforts to identify emerging opportunities and potential threats, with actionable recommendations to strengthen Standard Chartered’s competitive positioning.
- Driving operational efficiencies through digital innovation, process optimisation, and scalable solutions will be central to elevating product performance.
Product Management and Development:
- Define and execute the product strategy and initiatives under the annual operating plan, collaborating closely with the Head of Trade & Working Capital and Country Product Head.
- Gain a deep understanding of client needs and develop market-driven value propositions across diverse client segments.
- Champion product launches and enhancements, coordinating with Sales and Marketing on campaign strategies, collateral development, customer engagement, and demand generation to meet volume and revenue targets.
- Ensure successful execution of global training programs to empower regional teams and align with commercialization goals.
- Serve as the primary liaison for investment cases submitted to Central Product for product enhancement and compliance with regulatory standards.
Commercialisation:
- Lead the rollout of new product capabilities, overseeing comprehensive commercialization plans and ensuring infrastructure readiness for market success.
- Design and implement client-centric solutions that address evolving needs within Trade & Working Capital.
- Provide ongoing training and support to cross-functional teams including Transaction Banking, Corporate and Commercial Banking, Financial Markets, Risk, and Treasury to facilitate the closure of complex, high-value deals.
- Maintain consistent strategic client engagement, dedicating approximately 20% of your time to fostering deep client relationships and delivering tailored solutions.
Skills and Experience
- Candidates for this role should hold an undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a closely related discipline as a minimum qualification.
- Deep expertise in Product Design and Development with proven success in bringing Trade Finance products to market.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Product Development Life Cycle and aptitude in managing all phases from ideation through to launch and post-market performance monitoring.
- Strong understanding of Trade and Working Capital product lines within Transaction Banking, including financial impact assessment and market factors.
- Experienced in Business Performance Management, leveraging data-driven insights to optimise profitability and operational efficiency.
- Proficiency in developing and presenting compelling Business Case Justifications to secure funding and stakeholder support for product innovations.
- Familiarity with Agile Project Management methodologies to foster collaboration and adapt to evolving business needs.
- In-depth awareness of Business Markets, Customer Behaviour, and preference trends to tailor products and solutions effectively.
- Keen insight into Emerging Technologies that can be harnessed to enhance product offerings and customer experience.
- Exceptional skills in Marketing Strategy and Positioning to ensure product visibility and competitive market standing.
