Job Summary
As an Executive Principal in Financial Institutions Sales, you will oversee the management of a diverse portfolio within Transaction Banking, specifically focusing on Financial Institution (FI) clients, including Public Sector entities, Paytechs, Fintechs, banks, and broker dealers across Southern Africa, with a primary emphasis on South Africa.
Your role involves collaborating closely with Relationship Managers and internal stakeholders to foster growth in cash management, TBFX, and trade finance services, aligning efforts with the broader Global Transaction Banking FI Sales strategy and adhering to the bank's risk parameters. This strategic oversight ensures our offerings meet market demands while delivering superior client value.
You will be responsible for leading and expanding the Cash & Trade business line for Transaction Banking FI Sales within Southern Africa, driving franchise growth and revenue origination. Your proactive initiatives will include identifying client needs comprehensively, engaging senior management and decision-makers, and transitioning client relationships beyond transactional engagements to trusted advisory partnerships.
Maximising profitable revenues while maintaining a strong client-centric approach will be key, strengthening existing relationships at all organisational levels. Your efforts will also encompass market analysis across the region, identifying new business opportunities, tailoring product demonstrations and proposals to client requirements, negotiating optimal terms and conditions, and supporting sales teams with structured solutions to meet client-specific cash management and trade needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee the sales management process within your portfolio to consistently achieve business objectives.
- Collaborate with product management teams to effectively commercialise strategic product rollouts ensuring alignment with market needs.
- Serve as the voice of the customer by providing insightful feedback to transaction banking functions including product management and marketing to shape future initiatives.
- Monitor and analyse customer requirements, industry trends, and competitor activities to recommend innovative product developments and enhancements.
- Guarantee smooth deal implementation while upholding the highest standards of service quality and client satisfaction.
- Ensure prompt and effective resolution of customer service issues, maintaining sustained post-sales client support.
- Conduct benchmarking exercises to identify sustainable competitive advantages in sales, products, and services against global banking peers.
- Establish and maintain robust governance frameworks to ensure sales compliance with internal policies, business conduct, and regulatory requirements.
- Champion regulatory compliance and actively manage financial crime risk in all business dealings.
- Deliver the Academy's initiative regionally, promoting ongoing education and development within the team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive and broad experience within the banking sector, specifically with a strong focus on Transaction Banking products and services.
- Proven track record in managing and growing portfolios relevant to Public Sector, Fintech/Paytech, and other FI clients.
- Demonstrable success in originating new business and deepening existing client relationships, supported by strong executive-level stakeholder engagement skills.
- Sound understanding of credit principles and excellent risk management experience.
- Recognised industry expert in Cash Management and/or Trade Finance with deep market intelligence capabilities.
- Comfortable working within complex matrix or network organisations, displaying agility and effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Analytical ability to assess working capital and funding requirements and design tailored solutions accordingly.
- In-depth market knowledge and awareness of global trends impacting transaction banking strategies and operational planning are essential.
- Candidates should demonstrate the ability to anticipate shifts in market dynamics and translate insights into action plans that enhance competitive positioning.
- A strong aptitude for proactively identifying client needs and crafting innovative, value-driven solutions is critical. Building and maintaining a network of influential contacts within client organisations to facilitate sales success and deliver client-centric advice that improves their operational and financial performance is required.
