About the Role
Standard Chartered Bank AG is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Manager, Complex Investigations FCC Germany to join our Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) team in Frankfurt.
In this role, you will lead and conduct complex Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions, and fraud investigations while ensuring compliance with German regulatory requirements and Group standards. You will play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial crime risks, supporting regulatory reporting obligations, and strengthening the Bank's overall Financial Crime Compliance framework.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and regional FCC teams while contributing to the Bank's commitment to operational excellence and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct complex AML, CTF, sanctions, fraud, and financial crime investigations.
- Identify, analyse, and investigate unusual or suspicious activities originating from transaction monitoring alerts, intelligence sources, negative media reports, regulatory requests, subpoenas, and other investigative channels.
- Draft, review, and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to relevant authorities in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
- Investigate potential fraudulent activities and present findings and recommendations to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).
- Ensure thorough documentation of investigative activities and maintain accurate records within case management systems.
- Manage investigations from initial detection through final disposition, ensuring timely and high-quality case conclusions.
- Provide expert guidance on AML, CTF, sanctions, and broader financial crime regulatory requirements.
- Support stakeholders in interpreting and applying applicable German regulations, Group policies, and industry best practices.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business and support functions on financial crime compliance matters.
- Respond to regulatory requests and support examinations, audits, and reviews.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and ongoing support to investigators and team members.
- Conduct regular quality reviews and case assessments to ensure consistent investigative standards.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and risk awareness.
- Partner with regional and global FCC teams to share best practices and enhance investigative capabilities.
Day-to-Day Tasks
- Apply FCC policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks to identify and mitigate financial crime risks.
- Support the enhancement of monitoring, screening, and investigative controls.
- Ensure relevant watchlists, databases, and monitoring systems remain accurate and up to date.
- Recommend risk mitigation measures and control enhancements based on investigation outcomes and emerging risks.
- Maintain high-quality management information (MI) and reporting.
- Ensure cases are reviewed and concluded within required regulatory and internal timelines.
- Support governance forums through reporting, trend analysis, and escalation of material issues.
- Ensure compliance with German laws, regulatory requirements, and Standard Chartered Bank policies.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Significant experience in Financial Crime Compliance, AML Investigations, Fraud Investigations, or Financial Crime Risk Management within banking or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of German AML, CTF, sanctions, and financial crime regulations.
- Proven experience conducting complex investigations and drafting SARs/STRs.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced regulatory environment.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or leading investigative teams.
Desirable
- Experience within correspondent banking or international banking environments.
- Understanding of transaction monitoring systems, screening tools, and case management platforms.
- Experience engaging directly with regulators and law enforcement agencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Business, Economics, Criminology, Accounting, or a related field.Professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, CFE, or equivalent are advantageous.
- Strong understanding of current AML legislation, money laundering typologies, sanctions requirements, and emerging financial crime risks.
- High attention to detail and strong report-writing skills.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a continuous improvement approach.
