Job Summary
We are hiring a Country Head of Risk & Controls (VP level) to lead non-financial risk management for Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Coverage across Continental Europe, based in Frankfurt. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for overseeing non-financial risks across CIB Coverage Continental Europe. You will ensure alignment with group standards and regulatory requirements, driving core operational risk activities, and act as the primary escalation point for risk incidents and control weaknesses.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, COO, Compliance, and Risk functions to strengthen control environments, proactively manage emerging risks, and support strategic and regulatory change.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for process risk, control effectiveness, and governance, operating at the intersection of business strategy, regulatory expectations, and operational resilience.
- Lead core operational risk activities, including KRIs/KCIs, issue management, residual risk assessments, and remediation delivery.
- Act as the primary escalation point for material operational risk incidents, emerging risks, and control weaknesses.
- Partner with senior stakeholders across Business, COO, Compliance, GPO, GBS, and Regional Risk & Control teams to embed best practice and support transformation initiatives.
- Manage relationship with internal and external auditors and regulators, ensuring robust audit outcomes and timely issue resolution
- Build risk capability across the organisation through targeted training and risk culture initiatives.
- Co-Chair and lead key governance forums, including the CIB Non‑Financial Risk Forum, ensuring clear escalation of material risk themes to senior management.
- Deliver clear, decision focussed risk reporting to senior stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience within Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage, Transaction Banking, and/or Financial Markets, with strong understanding of cross‑business risks.
- Deep expertise in operational risk management and enterprise risk frameworks within a regulated financial services environment.
- Experience across Client Due Diligence, Entity Management, Credit Management, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g. PRA/FCA, MaRisk) is advantageous.
- Proven ability to produce high‑quality risk papers and senior management reporting.
- Demonstrated track record of independently leading complex initiatives, thematic reviews, and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Strong judgement, with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence at senior levels.
- Experience in operations, change, or project delivery is beneficial.
- Fluent in English; German language capability is an advantage.
