Job Summary
We are seeking a Specialist Legal Counsel to provide dedicated legal support to SCB AG and the wider organization as part of the “Article 21c CRD VI Project”. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a high-profile strategic initiative, supporting the bank’s transition and alignment with new regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will play a key role in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering practical, risk-aware advice that supports SCB AG’s business objectives. Working closely with internal stakeholders, project teams, and external counsel, you will help ensure timely and compliant project execution within the bank’s governance and policy frameworks.
This is a fixed-term position established specifically for the duration of the project (12 months).
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate contractual documentation related to the transfer of in-scope Transaction Banking (TB), Global Banking (GB), and Client Coverage (CC) facilities to SCB AG.
- Develop and maintain standard-form documentation and guidance materials to ensure they remain compliant under applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate legal documentation in accordance with product governance requirements and SCB AG policies — including credit and trade terms, facility letters, and related transactional agreements.
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to TB, GB, CC, and related business units, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and adherence to approved documentation standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on structuring bespoke transactions and managing re-papering initiatives.
- Negotiate directly with clients and counterparties, articulating contractual positions clearly and professionally.
- Build strong partnerships with business, credit, and legal stakeholders across SCB AG and other entities within SCB, representing Legal in working groups and key project forums.
- Support the Local Product Programme (LPPG) to ensure documentation and legal risks are appropriately managed.
Skills and Experience
- Qualified legal professional with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the banking or financial services sector, or 2+ years in a law firm specializing in banking or financial services.
- Proven expertise in lending, transaction banking, or trade finance.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to handle complex commercial agreements.
- Excellent understanding of the European legal and regulatory framework, as well as cross-border banking considerations.
- Experience in providing strategic legal input into major projects or regulatory transitions.
- Ability to interpret complex legal issues, communicate them clearly to non-legal audiences, and offer practical, business-focused solutions.
- Fluent English (spoken and written) is essential; German proficiency is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage directly with senior management and external partners.
