Job Summary

•    The Director, People Capability is a senior leadership role accountable for shaping and delivering the people capability agenda at a Global and Country level, in alignment with enterprise strategy, business priorities, and regulatory expectations. As the organisation navigates increasing complexity, transformation, and regulatory scrutiny, this role ensures that workforce capability, leadership readiness, and learning effectiveness are positioned as strategic enablers of sustainable performance.
•    The role provides end to end accountability for people capability strategy, governance, and execution in country, ensuring colleagues have the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to perform their roles effectively and in compliance with all applicable standards. This includes translating enterprise people and learning strategies into locally relevant solutions, while maintaining consistency, quality, and scale.
•    Working in close partnership with HR, business leaders, and regional/global stakeholders, the Director, People Capability anticipates current and future capability needs, ensures optimal leverage of enterprise learning solutions, and drives measurable business impact through capability interventions.
•    The role also plays a critical part in regulatory learning oversight, audit readiness, and conduct assurance, ensuring that people capability frameworks fully support the organisation’s risk, compliance, and governance objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
•    The role requires a senior leader who can operate with strategic foresight and operational rigour, balancing local delivery with enterprise contribution. 
The Director, People Capability is expected to:
•    Set and lead the country people capability strategy, aligned to business priorities, workforce plans, and enterprise people agendas.
•    Partner with HR and senior business leaders to identify capability gaps, shape workforce solutions, and embed learning into the flow of work.
•    Provide strong governance and oversight of regulatory, compliance, and mandatory learning, ensuring sustained readiness for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
•    Ensure effective adoption of enterprise learning solutions, minimising unnecessary localisation while maximising relevance, consistency, and scale.
•    Lead, coach, and develop people capability leaders and practitioners, fostering accountability, high performance, and strong engagement.
•    Contribute to enterprise and cross market initiatives, sharing insights, best practices, and lessons learned to strengthen organisation wide people capability outcomes.
•    Build and sustain external partnerships with industry bodies, professional associations, and educational or government institutions to enhance the learning ecosystem.
•    Drive continuous improvement, using data, insight, and feedback to strengthen learning effectiveness, efficiency, and business impact.
What the Role Does
People Capability Strategy and Governance
•    Provides strategic leadership for people capability in country, ensuring alignment with enterprise frameworks, learning standards, and workforce priorities.
•    Acts as the primary point of accountability for regulatory and compliance learning, including governance, quality assurance, and audit readiness.
•    Ensures people capability risks are identified, escalated, and mitigated in line with organisational risk and conduct expectations.
•    Oversees the effective deployment and impact of enterprise learning programmes, monitoring outcomes and business relevance locally.

Capability Solutions and Business Impact
•    Ensures learning and capability solutions are outcome driven, scalable, and aligned to real business needs.
•    Challenges unnecessary localisation and duplication, ensuring enterprise solutions are leveraged wherever possible.
•    Uses insight, data, and stakeholder feedback to assess the effectiveness of capability initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Partnership and Influence
•    Builds trusted partnerships with HR, business leaders, and regional/global stakeholders to influence people capability priorities and decisions.
•    Acts as a senior advocate for people capability, strengthening its visibility, credibility, and impact within the organisation.
•    Represents the country perspective in enterprise forums, initiatives, and communities of practice.
Leadership, Coaching, and Talent Development
•    Leads and develops people capability teams and leaders, setting clear direction and expectations.
•    Coaches and mentors senior practitioners, supporting the development of future ready capability leadership.
•    Creates an inclusive, high performance environment where people feel accountable, supported, and empowered to grow.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
•    Displays exemplary conduct and lives by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
•    Takes personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.

Other Responsibilities
•       Embed Here for good and Group’s brand and values in GBS India; Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures. Multiple functions (double hats);

Qualifications

•    Academic Qualifications equivalent to Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from reputed institutions.
•    Proven experience in designing, developing and delivering Training & Development programmes. 
•    Familiarity with digital development tools, platforms, and content creation is a plus. 
•    Familiarity with project management tools 
•    Proven experience in analysing data and reporting
