Job Summary

Product Specialist is the driver of solution to the business requirement or user journey. The job holder has sound understanding on the product capabilities of the system/platform and able to drive solution with product owner, architect, vendor and supporting technology team. The job holder possesses deep product knowledge with strong technical skills to work on product innovation along with team and product vendors (IBM ODM). They work with product owner to derive product/system roadmap to deliver fit for purpose capabilities. This person should also be committed to the discovery and development of innovative solutions in an ever-changing digital landscape in banking industry.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
•    Execution of functional standards and best practices 
•    Acts as a conduit for the wider domain strategy, for example technical standards.
•    Prioritises and makes available capacity for technical debt.

Business
•    Development & Implementation: Build, test, and deploy well-designed, efficient, and reliable Java Spring Boot microservices as defined by the team's technical leads and architects.
•    Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code (unit, integration). Participate actively in code reviews to share knowledge and ensure adherence to team standards.
•    Feature Delivery: Work within an Agile squad to deliver user stories, tasks, and bug fixes, contributing to the regular release of new functionality.
•    Collaboration: Work closely with other developers, QA engineers, Engineering Lead and Product Owner to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
•    Modernizations Support: Actively contribute to the migration of business rules and logic from the legacy IBM ODM system into the new services.
•    Monitoring & Support: Assist in monitoring the health of services in production and participate in the team's support, investigating and resolving issues.

Processes
•    Adopt and embed the Change Delivery Standards throughout the lifecycle of the product / service.
•    Follows the chapter operating model to ensure a system exists to continue to build capability and performance of the chapter.

Risk Management
•    Follows the standards with respect to risk management as applicable to their chapter domain.
•    Adheres to common practices to mitigate risk in their respective domain.

Governance
•    Ensure all artefacts and assurance deliverables are as per the required standards and policies (e.g., SCB Governance Standards, ESDLC etc.).

Regulatory & Business Conduct
•    Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
•    Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Key stakeholders
•    Architect, Engineering Leads. 
•    Global Wealth Management Digital Owners, for business priority and initiatives.
•    Business & Technology Managers, for solution design and delivery.

Other Responsibilities
•    Embed Here for good and Group’s brand and values in Wealth Journey squad;
•    Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures

Skills and Experience

Required Qualifications & Skills
 
•    5+ years of experience in backend development with a strong focus on Java.
•    Hands-on experience with the Spring Boot framework. You are comfortable building RESTful APIs and understand core Spring concepts.
•    Practical understanding of microservices architecture and API design.
•    Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and writing efficient SQL.
•    Familiarity with version control (Git), and build tools like Maven or Gradle.
•    A solid foundation in software testing principles (e.g., JUnit, Mockito).
•    A keen interest in learning modern technologies and best practices.
•    Good verbal and written communication skills in English. You must be able to articulate ideas and collaborate effectively within your team.
•    A team-oriented mindset with a proactive and positive attitude.
 
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
 
•    Any exposure to, or academic understanding of, IBM ODM, Drools, or other business rules engines.
•    Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
•    An interest in the financial services sector, particularly wealth management or investment products.
•    Experience working in a CI/CD environment.

Qualifications

Education    
•    Bachelor's degree, or higher, in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
