Market Risk Platform (MRP) is Standard Chartered’s financial risk consolidation, aggregation, and reporting platform for Market Risk. The development team aims to provide technical solutions to support the bank’s Financial Markets business as well as support requirements from other projects with a wider scope such as regulatory books of work.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the implementation of highly visible strategic programs with the primary responsibilities around building components within the MRP platform. Any developed solution must be scalable, robust and fault tolerant catering to the existing and future business needs in a timely manner. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop innovative solutions with a view to these being released quickly to gain feedback before advising on the full scale roll out.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Developer with expertise in OLAP Database like ClickHouse, RDBMS like PostgreSQL, MySQL last but not the least NoSQL databases (MongoDB, etc.) to manage and optimize our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of database architecture, entity-relationship modeling, and experience scaling data-intensive applications. The role requires both hands-on development and strategic oversight to ensure the performance, security, and scalability of our database systems
Key Responsibilities

Database Design & Development
- Architect, design, and develop scalable and optimized database solutions across ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and/or NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
- Implement entity-relationship modelling, normalization, indexing, and partitioning strategies for optimal database performance.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and security across multiple database environments.
Performance Optimization & Scaling
- Analyze and optimize slow queries and database bottlenecks for high-performance data processing.
- Design and implement sharding, partitioning, and indexing strategies to enhance query performance.
- Optimize database performance for high-throughput and low-latency applications.
- Work on scaling strategies for data-intensive applications, ensuring databases can handle large-scale transactions and analytics workloads.
Database Administration & Maintenance
- Manage and maintain existing databases (ClickHouse, PostgreSQL etc.), ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for databases.
- Monitor database health, replication, and failover mechanisms.
- Work closely with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to optimize database deployment and performance in cloud and on-prem environments.
Data Security & Compliance
- Implement role-based access controls (RBAC), encryption, and security best practices for data protection.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and data governance policies.
- Define and enforce database access policies to prevent unauthorized data access.
Collaboration & Cross-Team Support
- Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and DevOps teams to integrate databases into applications and pipelines.
- Work with business and analytics teams to support data-driven decision-making.
Automation & Tooling
- Automate database monitoring, indexing, and maintenance tasks using scripts and database automation tools.
- Evaluate and implement new database technologies based on business needs.
Skills and Experience
- Experience working with real-time analytics platforms and data warehouses.
- Knowledge of Kafka, Spark, or other streaming data technologies.
- Familiarity with CI/CD for database changes and version control.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in database development and administration with expertise in ClickHouse
- Strong expertise in SQL development, query optimization, indexing, and database tuning.
- Deep understanding of entity-relationship modelling and normalization principles.
- Experience with high-volume, high-throughput database systems.
- Knowledge of data partitioning, replication, and sharding techniques.
- Strong experience with ETL processes and data migration between relational and NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Google Cloud, Azure DBs, etc.).
- Understanding of database security, role-based access, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with containerized database deployments using Docker/Kubernetes is a plus.
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) for automation is a plus.
