Job Summary
The Head of AI Solutions leads the engineering teams that build, ship and run our AI applications. The role is accountable for the technical implementation and production operation of approved use cases, covering solution design, application development, testing, release and ongoing support. It is a technology leadership role focused on how approved solutions are engineered and operated, working closely with product owners and business stakeholders to turn agreed priorities into working software.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage cross functional engineering teams across AI engineering, platform engineering, technical leads and MLOps/AIOps.
- Own solution design and technical architecture for approved AI applications, engineering to agreed priorities and standards.
- Own application development and the technical implementation of approved use cases, building on shared platforms, components and engineering standards.
- Own testing and engineering quality, including code quality, evaluation, performance and security testing.
- Own release management, including build, deployment and change management for applications going into production.
- Own MLOps/AIOps operations and production support, including reliability, performance, monitoring, incident response and the ongoing lifecycle of applications in production.
- Confirm engineering and operational readiness as the technical gate for promoting a system to production, making sure it is built, tested, instrumented and operable to the required standard.
- Provide engineering feasibility, effort, cost and risk input into use case prioritisation and planning, and own the sequencing and capacity of the engineering teams against agreed demand.
- Engineer and operate the shared technical platform capabilities and developer tooling that delivery teams build on.
- Give product owners and business leaders a clear view of engineering progress, technical constraints, dependencies and trade offs.
- Work with control functions across risk, compliance and security on how solutions are engineered, controlled and operated.
- Hire, develop and retain senior engineering talent.
Our Ideal Candidate
- 15+ years of experience in leading cross functional engineering teams in a large enterprise or technology company.
- Has delivered AI applications into production at scale, with hands on ownership of testing, release and production operations.
- Strong working knowledge of system design, data engineering, current AI systems, including large language models, agent based architectures, retrieval and evaluation, and how they behave in production.
- Experience operating AI or machine learning systems in production, including reliability, monitoring, incident management and lifecycle.
- Comfortable working with product owners and business stakeholders, and able to give clear engineering feasibility and risk input.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in banking or another regulated industry is a plus.
Role Specific Technical Competencies
• Experience in AI/ML, Data Platforms, Cloud Engineering, or Enterprise Technology.
• Proven experience building and operating enterprise AI platforms supporting Machine Learning, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and advanced analytics at scale.
• Demonstrated success delivering AI and GenAI solutions within highly regulated industries, with strong understanding of governance, regulatory, risk, privacy, and security requirements.
• Deep experience in AI Platform Engineering, MLOps, LLMOps, and AI Lifecycle Management, including model development, deployment, monitoring, evaluation, and operationalization.
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise-grade AI services, such as RAG platforms, model hosting, AI workspaces, model catalogues, and reusable AI accelerators.
• Strong understanding of AI governance, model risk management, cybersecurity, data governance, and responsible AI frameworks.
• Proven ability to establish and manage platform operating models, service catalogues, SLAs, KPIs, and operational support frameworks.
• Experience partnering with Architecture, Engineering, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Cybersecurity (ICS), and Audit teams to implement compliant and scalable AI solutions.
