Job Summary

As a Trade Officer, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating international trade transactions and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies. This position requires a meticulous professional who is adept at managing trade documentation, coordinating with multiple stakeholders including clients, banks, and regulatory bodies to enable seamless trade operations. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, resolving discrepancies in trade documentation, and providing expert guidance on trade finance products tailored to meet the unique needs of our diverse client base.

Your role will involve continuous collaboration with internal teams and external partners to streamline trade processes, mitigate risks, and enhance operational efficiency. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements and best practices that support the bank’s commitment to delivering exceptional client service.

This full-time, office-based role offers the opportunity to engage with complex trade finance instruments, expanding your expertise in a dynamic and impactful financial environment. As a Trade Officer, you will be instrumental in helping our clients navigate the complexities of international trade, contributing directly to their growth and success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trade Documentation Management: Ensure accurate preparation, verification, and processing of all trade-related documents, including letters of credit, bank guarantees, bills of lading, and shipping documents, in compliance with international banking standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Client Support and Advisory: Provide clear, timely guidance to clients regarding trade finance products, regulatory obligations, and risk mitigation strategies to support their trading activities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to local and international trade regulations, anti-money laundering policies, and sanctions screening to safeguard the integrity of transactions.
  • Risk Management: Identify and escalate potential risks or anomalies within trade operations, conducting thorough investigations and implementing preventive measures in collaboration with risk teams.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise effectively with internal departments including compliance, operations, and sales, as well as external entities such as clients, correspondent banks, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth trade execution.
  • Process Improvement: Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing trade service delivery, automating manual processes, and promoting operational excellence.
  • Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive and organised records of trade transactions, supporting audit requirements and management reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

  • ICC certification an advantage.
  • Good understanding of Documentary Trade and Open Account Products. Must have knowledge on Bank Guarantees.
  • Multi-skilled in the handling of all trade transaction processing.
  • Demonstrated experience in trade finance operations or related banking functions, preferably within an international banking environment.
  • Strong understanding of trade finance instruments, including letters of credit, guarantees, and documentary collections.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex trade processes in a clear and client-friendly manner.
  • Proficient in managing multiple tasks with diligence and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Solid knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing trade finance, including AML, KYC, and sanctions compliance.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with a commitment to accuracy and quality in documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to adapt and learn quickly in a dynamic financial environment with shifting priorities.
