Job Summary

Support and implement the vision, strategy, direction and leadership for the country consistent with the vision and strategy for FCSO and in support of the Group’s strategic direction and growth aspiration. Working under the Guidance of Shariah Board (SB) and Head of Shariah Compliance:

Key Responsibilities

  • Shariah Compliance Review: Manager Shariah Compliance shall keep continuous watch on Bank’s Shariah compliance environment. In order to monitor and ensure compliance of bank’s operations on ongoing basis with rules and principles of Shariah, SBP instructions and SB’s FATAWA/ guidelines, Head - SCD under the supervision of RSBM shall, on sample basis, conduct following internal Shariah compliance reviews as per the approved plan by Shariah Board of the products / services offered in the following business / segments:
  • Islamic Retail Banking & Wealth Management Products which includes Pool Management and Profit and Loss Distribution,
  • Islamic Commercial Banking Products (Trade, LPU, CRC),
  • Islamic Corporate and Institutional Banking Products (Trade, LPU, FMO, CRC),
  • Islamic Branches and Islamic Windows,
  • Monthly verification for distribution of profit and loss to the Islamic depositors prior to its disbursement,
  • The review of Islamic banking website will be conducted during the review of their respective business segment.
  • Manager Shariah Compliance shall periodically submit a report to the SB on the overall Shari’ah compliance environment of the bank.
  • Manager Shariah Compliance shall prepare a six-monthly review report on its observation and provide suggestion therein.
  • Trainings on Shariah Compliance: Manager Shariah Compliance shall facilitate Training Unit of Human Resources Department of the bank to develop training material and to organize Shari’ah training activities as per training plan approved by the management and the SB. Moreover, Shariah Compliance Department (SCD), in coordination with Human Resource Department shall be responsible for ensuring the implementation of training and development policy and annual training plan for Islamic banking 
  • Secretary of Shariah Board (SB): Manager Shariah Compliance shall support in the Secretariat of SB with the responsibility to provide all the necessary secretarial support to the SB including timely provision of meetings’ agenda, proposals, and working papers. It shall support in maintaining proper record of agenda items, minutes of the SB meetings and FATAWA issued by the SB along with their rationale.
  • Conduit between Management and the SB: Manager Shariah Compliance shall act as conduit between the SB and management of the bank. He shall review all the product proposals and related agreements, contracts, manuals, process flows, checklists submitted by management before presenting these to the SB for approval. 
  • He shall not involve in any operational / business related functions / activity including product development. 
  • He will prepare responses to Shari’ah related queries of bank’s clients regarding bank’s products and services after discussion with the relevant stakeholders and submit the same to RSBM for his advice/review / confirmation.
  • Miscellaneous  Responsibilities of Manager Shariah Compliance: 
  • He shall prepare a comprehensive DOI to assist its staff in discharging their duties.
  • He shall ensure that SCB’s website gives brief introduction of SB members, disclosures required by SBP, key features of all the products offered, frequently asked questions (FAQs) and the contact details of the department.

 

Skills and Experience

•    Minimum experience of 7 years in Islamic Banking industry with relevant experience of at least 3 years in Shariah Compliance

•    He / She shall be a qualified Shariah scholar who shall meet the criteria of “Academic Qualifications” as mentioned in Shariah Governance Framework .i.e. Dars e Nizami.

•    Must have a strong command of English and good understanding of Arabic
