Job Summary

Lead the management of Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Client Coverage and country - related Legal matters across the Group's network in Pakistan, with overall responsibility for providing legal advice, guidance, and support to stakeholders across the Group on CIB Client Coverage and Pakistan related Legal matters, including products, and segments. CIB Client Coverage segments include Financial Institutions, Global Subsidiaries and Global Industries. 

Key Responsibilities

•    Ensure the Pakistan Legal team considers the Group's strategy to identify and guide on key thematic, emerging, and regulatory legal risks that impact at an enterprise level. 
•    Act as a point of escalation for any material Legal issues in Pakistan by maintaining close relationships with stakeholders including the Pakistan CEO, as well as Function, Product and Business leads to provide them with relevant legal advice, guidance, and support.
•    Follow the Group Management Responsibility Policy to ensure effective risk management and the implementation of proper controls across the Pakistan Legal team.
•    Support and collaborate with other Heads of Legal to develop effective strategies for identifying horizon risks and strengthening relationships with regulators.
•    Lead the Pakistan Legal team in providing all country, product, and Client Coverage segment legal advice to the business. 
•    Work with Product Legal Heads and other stakeholders to structure and define parameters for new products and initiatives and develop template legal documentation in Pakistan.
•    Is accountable for, and has primary responsibility over, non-material third party disputes in areas in scope.
•    Partner with other members of the Legal function and contribute (where appropriate and without duplication or overlap) to, complex Legal matters for which they do not have overarching responsibility or accountability.
•    Is responsible (but not accountable for) non-material employment disputes/negotiations, business alliances and single-country supplier contracts in Pakistan.
•    Is accountable for, and has primary responsibility over, managing Country Legal Panels in Pakistan.
•    Maintain primary responsibility over logistical and operational matters arising in Pakistan which relate to the CIB Client Coverage Legal team.
•    Work with Global Head Legal CIB Client Coverage and HR to endeavour to ensure that the Pakistan team is adequately resourced and staffed by an appropriate number of competent staff sufficiently independent to perform their duties objectively, support sustainable business growth and address relevant legal risks. 
•    Provide leadership, management and coaching to direct reports to enable them to be fully engaged and performing to their potential.
•    Act as Process Owner for any processes owned by the function where such processes are executed within the Pakistan Legal team in accordance with the requirements of the Operational & Technology Risk Type Framework and associated policies and standards. This includes oversight for activities within these processes which are conducted by the businesses or other functions onshore or which are hubbed, Managed Service teams  or where these are outsourced through 3rd party contracts.
•    Participate in the functions Non-Financial Risk Committee as a committee member, and work with the Legal Risk and Policy Team on risk management issues across the Legal function.
•    Represent Legal in the governance of CIB Client Coverage related issues by endeavouring to ensure that any papers which relate to CIB Client Coverage and Clusters related Legal matters being tabled at Board, Court, Group or Bank governance committees or CIB Client Coverage and Clusters business have been reviewed by the CIB Client Coverage and Clusters Legal team and clearly articulate the issues and legal risks involved. 
•    Manage the provision of reports to relevant Group and business risk and control committees and management groups on key CIB Client Coverage related legal risks and issues in Pakistan.
