Job Summary
The role holder is accountable for supporting the strategic business agenda while maintaining risk, assurance, and governance oversight, alongside the Wealth and Retail Banking (WRB) Global and Cluster Business Risk Management, WRB Chief Operations Officer (Chief Operating Officer) and WRB Management Team. The person will be responsible for managing the Country governance forums in WRB.
As the Country Head of Business Risk Management in WRB, the role holder is responsible for maintaining the governance and assurance of processes and frameworks for robust compliance and controls, e.g. Anti Money Laundering and sanctions checks, protection of Bank, client information and assets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
Support the growth of WRB Business by proactive identification of the risks relevant to the business.
Business
Maintain strong stakeholder engagement with Country Business and COO teams, Country Business Risk Management, Group Business Risk Management (BRM) teams . Supports the WRB COO and Ccountry Business to execute responsibilities as outlined in the Group Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
• Maintain a strong and appropriate control environment covering WRB businesses
• Restricting business if existing infrastructure and processes, capacity or capability are not fit to execute business within operational risk tolerance, regulatory standards or growth aspirations.
• Maintain strong stakeholder engagement with Technology Services, Country Mamagement Team, Risk & Compliance and Group Internal Audit to ensure alignment across stakeholder groups.
• Ensure appropriate representation across the stakeholder groups in governance and delivery forums.
• Escalate appropriately to ensure the Country WRB COOs, Regional WRB COO and Regional BRM Head are updated and able to intervene as required.
Processes
• Leverage the findings and learnings from reviews and input to the design of global processes and controls ensuring the controls are effective and relevant.
• Input to the design of global processes and controls ensuring local requirements are considered, while adhering to Group standards.
• Work with the relevant process owners under WRB to ensure processes are fit for purpose and meet regulatory requirements
• Evaluate processes across the Client Journeys within WRB to ensure controls and governance are in place for any initiatives introduced in the Journeys.
People & Talent
• Champion and act as a role model of the Group’s values and culture.
• Lead and support a change in mindset, building a culture of client centricity, agility, and accountability through standardised metrics and measurement, ensuring everyone in Operations are drivers and owners of client outcomes
• Set effective metrics and standards, transparently communicating them to team members, providing feedback and rewarding employees accordingly. Set the appropriate tone and expectations for the wider team.
• Employ, engage, and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
• Ensure team structure/capacity is reviewed to enable delivery of client outcomes.
• Ensure the provision of on-going training & development, ensure that direct reports are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles and that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risk
Risk Management
• Accountable for country implementation and embedding of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework linked to WRB business to ensure appropriate focus on as risk appetite.
• Facilitate a framework for effective management of non-financial risks across the WRB country business and in compliance with applicable internal policies and external laws & regulations across our markets.
• Responsible to monitor and minimize operational losses and upkeep management controls awareness and in conjunction with Regional COOs and Regional Head of BRM, ensure appropriate focus on risks/issues and resolutions.
• Responsible to manage internal audit / inspections on Operations and Business teams in country / region as well as offshore service centres through direct reports.
• Coordinate with respective process owners on various data remediation plans and provide governance oversight to ensure that WRB is fully compliant with the Data Quality Management Framework (DQMF).
• Ensure risk acceptances are in place where required and treatment plans (both country and group level) are tracked to meet target residual risk state.
• Work with respective process owners to ensure Group driven regulatory requirements requirements are fulfilled for WRB.
• Single point of contact to answer and update all queries and submissions relating to WRB governance.
• Ensure there is a framework for effective management of non-financial risks and in compliance with applicable internal policies and external laws and regulations across our network markets leading to timely assessment of residual risks at Country level.
• Work with respective process owners to ensure Information and Cyber Security and Conduct plans for WRB are implemented as per schedule
• Support Country Client Due Diligence (CDD) Operations team to ensure CDD governance are in place.
Governance
Facilitate key non-financial Risk Committee meetings in WRB, to ensure quality governance of processes, including data management. (Exclude other risk committee not related to non-financial risk. E.g. Credit/ Asset Lliability Management)
Regulatory & Business Conduct
• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
• Lead the Nepal BRM team to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles.
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
• Exercise authorities delegated by the Board of Directors and act in accordance with Articles of Association (or equivalent)

Qualifications
- Education - Minimum Masters degree in relevant discipline
- Experience - Minimum 10 years experience in relevant function
- Languages - Proficient in spoken as well as Written English and Nepali
