Job Summary
The Head of Investors, Hong Kong will lead a seasoned team to drive origination and client relationship management with key investors in the Hong Kong market. This role acts as a strategic advisor and value-added partner to clients, with full accountability for the client group’s overall revenue, profitability, and risk profile (AML, CDD and Credit). The role holder will be responsible for developing and sustaining a deep understanding of each client's structure, strategy, and evolving needs, and for steering the relationship through disciplined and effective account planning. The position will also lead engagement with a diverse range of institutional investors, including asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds, private credit firms, public pension funds, and other capital allocators.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
- Contribute to the development of the global Financial Institutions (FI) strategy with a dedicated focus on investor coverage in Hong Kong, aiming to maximize shareholder value. Identify and capitalize on key areas of competitive advantage to drive strategic growth and enhance the bank's market positioning.
- Ensure alignment with the bank's global strategy through effective coordination and collaboration with relevant global and regional product partners, fostering seamless execution and integrated client delivery.
- Manage the investor coverage strategy, including the development of a global customer value proposition aligned with the broader strategic direction of the Group and Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB). Take ownership for delivering financial performance targets, while also being accountable for client relationship management, including compliance and credit risk oversight.
Business
- Accountable for setting and delivering performance targets for the investors segment, with a strong emphasis on revenue generation and cost efficiency.
- Actively originate new business opportunities and expand the franchise by leveraging the bank’s competitive advantages, including its global network, transaction banking capabilities, and credit markets expertise.
- Engage senior management and C-suite executives of key clients through a consistent, value-added trusted advisor approach. Proactively anticipate client needs and deliver strategic, forward-looking advice, partnering with relevant product and industry specialists as needed. Collaborate closely with global product and client coverage heads to drive cross-sell initiatives and deepen client relationships.
- Responsible for delivering high-quality client service across investor coverage segments, with a focus on deepening and broadening long-term relationships. Ensure client conflicts are identified and managed fairly and transparently, in line with firm’s standards.
- Drive profitable revenue growth while maintaining a strong focus on client outcomes.
- Represent the Bank professionally in the region, upholding its values and strengthening relationships stakeholder relationships.
- Continuously develop industry and product expertise, anticipating client needs and market trends.
- Foster a culture that balances business growth with prudent risk management and capital efficiency.
Processes
- Proactively manage the designated client portfolio, ensuring strong relationships with key stakeholders across financial markets, global banking, transaction banking, country CEOs, and service delivery teams.
- Maintain a robust risk management framework by effectively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks.
- Ensure the team remains well versed in the evolving regulatory landscape through ongoing training and adherence to Group policies, while fostering the ability to contribute to policy development.
- Escalate key regulatory risks within the governance framework as needed and manage them appropriately. Drive adherence to all sales disciplines in line with Group standards, including account planning, call reporting, and deal pipeline management.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities through active participation in relevant industry events.
People & Talent
- Provide strong leadership by articulating a clear vision, driving alignment with the bank's objectives, and fostering employee engagement. Ensure continuous talent development, effective supervision, and succession planning for key roles.
- Regularly review team structure and capacity to align with business needs, and set clear performance objectives, offering feedback and rewards based on individual and team achievements.
Risk Management
- Take proactive leadership on regulatory, reputational, and ethical matters, offering guidance to clients and coaching the team on associated risks. Ensure adequate training and awareness of regulatory, reputational, and ethical issues, raising key risks to the governance framework.
- Oversee financial crime management, including CDD for investors coverage clients, and maintaining the integrity of client data.
- Ensure timely resolution of audit and compliance issues, and establish robust frameworks to manage reputational, business, and operational risks while ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulations.
- Collaborate with regional management to assign responsibilities and uphold high standards of regulatory conduct, including compliance with AML regulations.
- Address risk management issues directly and escalate concerns to relevant risk committees as needed.
Governance
- Accountable for evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of governance, oversight, and control frameworks across the business. Maintain a strong understanding of the relevant regulatory environment and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations.
- Provide effective governance by constructively challenging peers and engaging openly and cooperatively with local regulators.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
- Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.

Qualifications
- Degree-qualified in banking, finance, or a related field, with extensive knowledge of financial markets and a strong background in credit products.
- Proven experience leading credit teams within investment grade or structured credit business, with a strong track record of originating and managing investor client relationships. Deep understanding of fund buying behaviour, financial markets, and transaction banking.
- Skilled in client origination and building strong, strategic relationships with key banking clients.
- Strong knowledge of the legal, economic, and regulatory landscape in the region, along with key insights into major trading corridors.
- Languages - English, proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese is advantageous.
