Director of Governance Services will be responsible for driving strategic documentation and initiatives, governance for T&O, setting the frameworks, guidelines, and approach for the Business Planning Manager (BPM) community, and provide governance and quality support for the T&O MT. This role will ensure that our governance practices are robust, consistent, and aligned with industry best practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
• Support the Global Head of T&O Governance and Head of Governance Services to develop relevant strategies/business plans for organisation wide improvements
• Support the T&O strategy for people, vendor, workforce and locations
• Track KPIs for the team
• Execute target operating model and location strategies
• Support the T&O Property footprint, cost optimisation and ways of working including people policies and strategies such as Work From Home
• Support for preparation of various strategy packs for Management
• Manage the overall budgets and headcount targets for T&O Governance on behalf of the Head of Governance Services
Business
• Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the group operates
• Influences the T&O delivery responses and solutions to critical business problems
• Provide leadership, oversight and active intervention on T&O Management office to ensure effective organisation capabilities, financial management execution of T&O MT agenda for increasing collaboration, effectiveness and capabilities of T&O Governance Team
• Forge deep relationships with T&O business lines to ensure understanding and alignment of T&O strategy
• Drive the development and adoption of common foundation systems, components and services to be used by different businesses/ functions/ geographies
• Maintenance of the T&O Governance Service catalogue and champion our services across T&O
• Partner with the Banks Group Strategy team to ensure alignment between the Group Technology and Operations Strategy and the broader bank’s Group Strategy, ensuring alignment of key pillars and outcomes
• Execute T&O Initiatives for the Global Head of T&O Governance (who is the accountable executive) to ensure proper follow-ups and follow-throughs
• Support the Head of Governance Services in setting frameworks and guidelines for the BPM Community of Practice to foster collaboration and share best practices.
• Execute new change initiatives working with several internal and external stakeholders
• Provide support to prioritise Change and cost out initiatives and conceptualise the framework
• Sustain focus & communication of various initiatives to senior members of the Management team
• Ensure proper visibility and branding of T&O Governance and the broader T&O Business team within and outside the organisation
• Review & refine strategy packs / papers / Exec summaries before review by Global Head of T&O Governance
• Ensure regular/relevant reporting from Governance office
• Communicate relevant messages to specified groups from Governance office
• Support Management for external branding Opportunities for Group Technology and Operations presentations

Risk Management
• Be the champion for propagating, continuous and active risk mgmt. culture in the team and also creating seamless processes for understanding and managing the risks in T&O Governance
• Stay on top of actions emanating from audit, governance forums and other such bodies to ensure timely and active mgmt. of all such actions
• Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment within the T&O Governance organisation
• Ensuring a risk lens is applied to everything we do to ensure the right risk culture within your team and the broader T&O Governance business
• Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the Group, as well as have firm treatment plans for all such risks and delivering on the treatment plans. Also, an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them
• Interpret the Group’s financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures
• Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment within the T&O Strategy organisation
• Act quickly and decisively when any risk and control weakness becomes apparent and ensure they are addressed within an appropriate timeframe and, if necessary, escalated through the relevant committee
Processes
• Cost Governance and Spend Optimisation, partner with Finance and the T&O MT to identify and optimise costs across T&O to deliver on the required Corporate Plan and headcount commitments
• Governance Oversight, Insights and Comms, tracking of actions and management costs. Safeguard business management topics and advance T&O’s impact through insights and comms
• Support the facilitation of management meetings/workshops
• Support the preparation for, and facilitation of, “critical path” strategic meetings with a view to ensure delivery of intended outcomes in the most efficient and effective manner
• Coordination/orchestration of governance deliverables or commitments directly involving the heads with a view to actively manage any conflicting interest and views to create alignment towards common T&O MT agenda and goals
• Support the effective delivery of the operational excellence agenda through management of budgets, infrastructure and the people agenda (including resourcing, capability and capacity and demand & supply)
• To leverage on available resources, systems and reporting capability to build comprehensive dashboards, and maintain internal scorecards for the team
• Originating and updating of various strategic documents (PPT, Excel, Word etc) for key meetings on an adhoc basis
Financial Management
• Manage the BAU budget for T&O Governance team and ensure complete adherence to financial objectives of sticking within the budget or creating saves as agreed with the Head of Governance Services
• Continually explore ways to create saves via synergies, efficiencies and other such means
• Display and live the highest standards of conduct and values while managing the financials
• Actively organising the cost centres for T&O Governance team to ensure sufficient transparency, accountability and empowerment of spends at appropriate authority levels
• Actively managing and tracking all cost centres (incl. projects, BAU and TPS) related to T&O Governance spends
• Actively work with Head of Finance for T&O Governance to ensure TPS budget and stretch targets are delivered
• Actively manage BAU budget to create room for meeting the aspirational and future looking agenda for T&O Governance
Governance
• Maintain relationship with Group Internal Audit / 2LoD / 1st Line Risk, supporting the T&O MT to meet and manage commitments, paper submissions, etc
• Support all governance papers and submission on behalf of the Group COO, ensuring quality and timely submissions in partnership with 1LoD and 2LoD
• Support the establishment and operation of an internal control framework to provide management the necessary assurance by conducting proactive assessments on agreed frequency for all critical governance forums
• Evaluate the impact of new and changing firm-wide / industry wide / governance requirements and enhance the governance framework on an ongoing basis to maintain its adequacy
• Regularly support the internal Governance Forum to demonstrate robust management control approach & awareness
• Ensure necessary management awareness and focus to critical issues / actions originating from all group governance forums
• Maintain oversight of critical actions, commitment and accountabilities for the T&O MT for all Group Governance forums
• Provide support for identification of Management metrics applicable to the Senior Manager & the management team
